African Energy Chamber: African Lives Matter, Too. Energy Policy Decisions Should Consider Their Needs

June 24, 2020 by vietnamnews.vn

Even during "normal times," energy poverty is dangerous. The household air pollution created by burning biomass, including wood and animal waste, to cook and heat homes has been blamed for as many as 4 million deaths per year. How will this play out during the pandemic? For women forced to leave their homes to obtain and prepare food, sheltering in place is nearly impossible. What about those who need to be hospitalized? Only 28 percent of sub-Saharan Africa's health care facilities have reliable power. Physicians and nurses can't even count on the lights being on, let alone the ability to treat patients with equipment that requires electricity - or store blood, medications, or vaccines. All of this puts African lives at risk. … [Read more...] about African Energy Chamber: African Lives Matter, Too. Energy Policy Decisions Should Consider Their Needs

Tourism on track in the world’s largest cave: AFP

January 20, 2021 by en.vietnamplus.vn

Hanoi (VNA) – France's news agency AFP on January 20 published an article on how tourism has been developed in and benefited local community around Vietnam’s Son Doong, which has been dubbed the world’s largest cave. According to the article, located in the central province of Quang Binh’s Phong Nha-Ke Bang National Park – the World Heritage site, Son Doong was first discovered by local forager Ho Khanh in 1991, when he stumbled upon an opening in a limestone cliff and heard the sounds of a river deep inside. But after returning home through the thick surrounding jungle, Khanh forgot where the hidden entrance lay, and it stayed lost for another two decades. When he eventually led a team of British experts back there in 2009, the team found it had the largest cross-section of any cave anywhere on the planet. It is large enough to house the 40-floor skyscrapers of an entire New York City block, according to adventure tour company Oxalis, which guides … [Read more...] about Tourism on track in the world’s largest cave: AFP

Stock market plummets, $10 billion lost

January 21, 2021 by vietnamnet.vn

The stable macroeconomy is the fundamental factor for the recovery and strong rise of the stock market. There are many ‘bright spots’ in the economy, including high export growth rate, record high trade surplus and curbed inflation. Tuan attributed the sale-off to convergence in psychology in front of the important 1,200 point resistance threshold and the accumulated margin. The 1,200 point threshold has become a firm resistance threshold three times. … [Read more...] about Stock market plummets, $10 billion lost
