Brian Spence There has been plenty of mergers and acquisitions (M&A) action in Việt Nam in recent months and, so far, momentum does not appear to be fading – notwithstanding its relatively small size in comparison with more developed markets. Việt Nam has recently become one of the favoured destinations for M&A for foreign investors, particularly those from Japan, Korea and Singapore. Key sectors of interest include real estate, food and beverages, retail, and to a lesser extent, manufacturing. M&A activity is not, however, confined to foreign investment. A report by the annual Việt Nam M&A Forum shows that 17.72 per cent of the total value of M&A deals in H1 2019 involved Vietnamese buyers. The corresponding figure of the previous year was 8.2 per cent. PAN Group sells 10% stake to Sojitz for $35 million
Vietnamese agriculture and food company PAN Group JSC (PAN) has sold 13.4 million shares, equivalent to a 10 per cent stake, to Japanese Sojitz Corporation, the Vietnamese company announced on Tuesday. At a price of VND61,000 (US$2.62) per share, PAN Group has collected VND817.4 billion ($35 million) from the share sale at a premium of 4.3 per cent to Tuesday’s close of VND58,500. After the transaction, PAN Group’s charter capital has increased from VND1.2 trillion to nearly VND1.34 trillion. Early this month, the company’s board approved the plan of offering a maximum of 11 per cent to the Japanese investor at a price of no less than VND55,000 per share. The funds raised from the sale are expected to help the company carry out its merger and acquisition (M&A) projects. Binh Thuan: Speedboat service to Phu Quy island begins operation

The service is operated by the Superdong – Kien Giang Speedboat Corporation, using a new ship imported from Malaysia with a cost of approximately 2 million USD. Ticket price (one way) is 350,000 VND (15.3 USD) for adults and 250,000 VND (10.94 USD) for children, and 260,000 VND (11.38 USD) for people with disability. The boat covers the 56 nautical mile distance from Phan Thiet city to Phu Quy island in two hours and a half.
