It’s unbelievable but true though Vietnam is one of the planet’s tropical fruit meccas, Vietnamese consumers pour a lot of money on foreign fruits. According to the Vietnam Customs’ figure, Vietnam spent US$1.5 billion importing fruits and vegetables mostly fruits in ten months of the year. Averagely, every month, the country spend $150 million buying fruits. There has seen an increase of 50 percent – 70 percent in Australia and the US fruits resulting in cheaper prices of foreign fruits. In Ho Chi Minh City market alone, 800 tons of cherry has been sold in seven months of the year; of which, 349 tons was from the US and 250 tons from Australia. Why charity work is important
A ceremony was held in Maputo (Mozambique) on May 29 by Buddhist monks, nuns, and followers from the Vietnamese community in the country to mark Buddha’s 2563rd birthday. The Vietnam Buddhist Shangha (VBS) coordinated with the Embassy of Vietnam in Mozambique to celebrate the Lord Buddha’s 2563rd birth anniversary in Maputo on May 29. The event drew dignitaries from over 20 religious organisations in Mozambique, along with more than 200 Vietnamese Buddhist followers, business representatives, and people living and working in Maputo. Three young Vietnamese women were lauded for their effort by former U.S. First Lady Michelle Obama when they met in the southern province of Long An on Monday. The meeting at Can Giuoc High School in Long An was part of Obama’s trip to Vietnam with American actress Julia Roberts to spotlight girls’ education on behalf of the Obama Foundation’s Girls Opportunity Alliance. They were joined by Vietnamese-American actress Lana Condor, Vietnamese actress Ngo Thanh Van, American news personality Jenna Hager, and American actress Liza Koshy.
