Ho Chi Minh City and other localities in southern Vietnam have entered a four-day period of scorching weather, with temperatures reaching 35 degrees Celsius. The region is no longer affected by unseasonal rain brought about by enhanced cold spells, the southern hydro-meteorological center said, adding that the weather has become much hotter in many provinces and cities. In Ho Chi Minh City, average temperatures will be at 34 to 35 degrees Celsius, but the real feel can be higher. In such provinces as Binh Phuoc, Binh Duong, and Dong Nai, the highest temperature is forecast to reach 35 degrees Celsius. It will also be more than 35 degrees Celsius in some areas. Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, group G teams competing in World Cup Asian qualifiers will play their final matches at a centralized venue. United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Thailand are both candidates to host the remaining matches, with a high chance Asian Football Confederation would choose the former, which can fulfill all requirements pertaining to stadiums, training locations, accommodation as well as Covid-19 prevention measures. Foreign ship arrivals down 6 percent in first two months Vietnam’s sea ports have berthed some 4,900 foreign vessels over the last two months, a decline of 6 percent year-on-year, according to the Vietnam Marine Administration. The fall was due largely to the impact of COVID-19, which is resulting in major fluctuations in the transport sector, a representative of the administration said. Despite the lower number of foreign ships, the volume of import and export goods through ports grew. In January and February, 35.3 million tonnes of imports and 26 million tonnes of exports were handled at ports nationwide. The former represented an annual increase of 14 percent while the latter was as same as that last year. In particular, nearly 1.3 million TEUs for exports and 1.2 million for imports were handled during the period, up 32 and 16 percent, respectively, year-on-year; the highest growth since the pandemic began. Vietnam trade surplus further expands to $20 billion in 11 months
The Hanoitimes - Vietnam’s trade turnover is expected to hit $540 billion this year, marking a year-on-year increase of $23 billion. Vietnam posted a trade surplus of US$754 million in November, further expanding the cumulative surplus in the 11-month period to US$20.06 billion from US$19.5 billion recorded one month earlier, according to the General Department of Vietnam Customs (GDVC).
