The Hanoitimes - Celebrating the 45th anniversary allows the two nations to reflect upon the past as it is a great opportunity to look ahead to the future of ties. Mexico and Vietnam celebrated in 2020 the 45th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations. During this time, ties have continued to broaden and strengthen: both countries have enhanced their political dialogue, expanded their economic and trade links, promoted technical and cultural exchanges. As topics in the bilateral agenda have diversified, so have the coincidences on a wide array of topics in the global agenda. At present, more than 25 local businesses have exported tra fish to the Mexican market, with some of the major export items including frozen pangasius fillets and cuts of frozen pangasius slices. Thirteen die in collision of truck, crowded SUV near U.S.-Mexico border

At least 13 people, 10 of them Mexican nationals, were killed on Tuesday when a tractor-trailer slammed into a Ford Expedition crammed with 25 adults and children in the dusty farming community of Holtville near the U.S.-Mexico border, officials said. Handmade wooden crosses stretched in a line across a patch of dry grass and dirt next to the highway, and a seat covered in what appeared to be blood lay near the SUV, as the desolate highway remained closed Tuesday afternoon. The white tractor trailer cab with yellow trim was still smashed into the wrecked side of the maroon SUV. The entire driver’s side of the smaller vehicle was caved in, and the passenger side was flung wide open. “Unfortunately, consular staff have confirmed the death of 10 Mexicans so far,” Roberto Velasco, the foreign ministry’s director for North America, said in a tweet in Spanish. Mexicans were also among the injured in the crash, he said. It was not immediately clear how fast the vehicles were going, … [Read more...] about Thirteen die in collision of truck, crowded SUV near U.S.-Mexico border

‘Help, 40 days here’: Photos show migrants crammed into U.S. border facilities

WASHINGTON/NEW YORK -- Government investigators warned of dangerous overcrowding at more migrant facilities on the southwest U.S. border, publishing photos on Tuesday of packed cells in Texas’ Rio Grande Valley where some children have no access to showers or hot meals. A report issued by investigators for the Department of Homeland Security said supervisors raised concerns for the health and safety of detainees and agents, warning that the overcrowding represented a “ticking time bomb.” The DHS watchdog issued the report after June visits to five U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) agency facilities in the Rio Grande Valley (RGV) sector, the busiest area of the border for migrant arrests. It came as President Donald Trump’s administration pushed back against criticism of its migrant detention centers on the U.S.-Mexico border. Conditions at the centers have been a flashpoint since May when the watchdog warned of similar conditions at facilities in the El … [Read more...] about ‘Help, 40 days here’: Photos show migrants crammed into U.S. border facilities
