Mount Merapi volcano erupts again, spewing a column of ash by up to 6 km high (Source: AFP/VNA) Jakarta (VNA) – Indonesia’s Mount Merapi volcano erupted again on June 21, spewing a column of ash by up to 6 km high , forcing local authorities to issue the highest level of flight alert . The National Volcanology Agency said that the wind was blowing to the west of the crater and the residents living near the volcano which is situated in Indonesia ’s main Java Island are barred from entering the area within a radius of 3 km from the crater. A volcano observatory notice for aviation with red code was issued by the agency after the eruption as it endangers planes which are prohibited from passing through the air space around the volcano. The 2.930-metre high Mount Merapi last erupted on April 2 with a column of ash spreading by up to 3 km to the sky. Indonesia’s Mount Sinabung volcano erupts again

Hanoi (VNA) - Indonesia's Mount Sinabung volcano sent a cloud of hot ash as high as 3km (1.86 miles) on March 2, in its first big eruption since August last year. Mount Sinabung's activity has increased since August last year and the alert for the volcano in North Sumatra province has been placed at second highest level. No casualties were reported as authorities had earlier urged people to stay at least 3km from the crater. Indonesia straddles the " Pacific ring of fire " with nearly 130 active volcanoes, more than any other country. Sinabung had been inactive for centuries before it erupted again in 2010. Red Spring Festival expects to collect over 4,000 blood units Young people donate their blood In his opening remarks, Director of the National Institute of Hematology and Blood Transfusion (NIHBT) Bach Quoc Khanh, who is head of the festival’s organizing board, said that the festival has been held annually since 2008 to address blood shortages after the lunar New Year holiday, and gradually changed public awareness of blood donation. After 13 editions, the festival has collected over 85,000 blood units and become the annual biggest blood donation event. Khanh took the occasion to express his gratitude for donators nationwide.
