The Vietnamese national women’s football team have been promised more than VND10 billion (US$438,569) and a number of valuable items including a car and motorbikes in rewards following their successful title defense against Thailand at the 30th Southeast Asian (SEA) Games in the Philippines on Sunday. The Vietnamese women toiled in 120 minutes at Rizal Memorial Stadium in Manila before they could edge past Thailand, with the gold-winning goal scored in the 92nd minute. The minimal victory won the Vietnamese women the sixth gold medal in SEA Games women’s football so far, with the other five clinched in 2001, 2003, 2005, 2009, and 2017. Following the triumph, Vietnam's Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Nguyen Ngoc Thien, who is also the president of the Vietnam Olympic Committee, decided to reward the team with VND1 billion (US$43,148). Likewise, the Vietnam Football Federation (VFF), Hung Thinh Corporation, and Le Van Kiem, chairman of Long Thanh Golf Investment … [Read more...] about Vietnam to reward SEA Games women’s football champions with big bucks

Bosch partners Yonah to clear healthcare barriers in Papua New Guinea
Bosch, a leading global supplier of technology and services, announced its collaboration with Yonah, a project initiated by the alumni and students of National University of Singapore (NUS) that seeks to overcome barriers to accessing healthcare in rural regions through autonomous technologies. The project was inspired by the founding team’s trip to Papua New Guinea in 2016, where they discovered cargo logistics challenges caused by the difficult terrain and lack of road infrastructure. This also inhibited the transport of medical supplies to rural villages, causing a surge in prices for transportation and hindering supervisory medical visits by health community workers. Yonah was thus founded to help time-sensitive medical supplies reach the communities that need them. “From our hospital partner at Papua New Guinea, we learned that health workers conducting immunisation patrols at the various rural health centres have to travel 20 to 30 kilometres on foot, taking up to … [Read more...] about Bosch partners Yonah to clear healthcare barriers in Papua New Guinea
What Vingroup and Masan hope to acquire from their retail merger
After many years of investing heavily and enduring losses to acquire its dominant share of the retail market, Vingroup, Vietnam’s biggest private conglomerate, is withdrawing from the business. The merger deal that it has signed with food giant Masan Group will integrate its network of 2,600 Vinmart and Vinmart+ minimarts into a merged entity operated by the latter. Vingroup will remain a shareholder in the merged entity, it said Tuesday. Although retail is a major asset in Vingroup’s commercial ecosystem, which includes real estate, education and shopping, it has not engaged heavily in backwards integration, i.e. the production of consumer goods. Masan, on the other hand, with its core business in fast moving consumer goods (FMCG), can potentially make much better use of the retail network that Vingroup has built. And with Vingroup retaining an undisclosed stake in the new entity, its network could still be used to support the conglomerate’s core business in … [Read more...] about What Vingroup and Masan hope to acquire from their retail merger
