PM meets Vietnamese Cambodians in Cambodia

Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc meets overseas Vietnamese (Source: VNA)   Siem Reap (VNA) – Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc met Cambodians of Vietnamese descent living in the Cambodian province of Siem Reap on April 5 during his trip to attend the third Mekong River Commission Summit.  The PM expressed his best wishes to them on the occasion of the traditional New Year of Cambodia and lauded them for linking the two countries together. He updated them on the development of ties between the two countries, saying that during working sessions, Vietnam asked the Cambodian government to offer all possible support to Vietnamese Cambodians, especially in legal procedures, education and life improvement. He also required the General Association of Vietnamese Cambodians, Vietnamese representative agencies and businesses in Cambodia to stand side by side with their fellow Vietnamese in the country. Earnings from coffee, pepper are modest because of poor branding

Vietnam is one of the biggest coffee and pepper exporters in the world, but the money it earns is modest. High export volume, low export value Vietnam is leading in the world in Robusta coffee exports present in 80 markets, accounting for 14.2 percent of the global coffee bean market. However, its export turnover is far lower than Brazil’s, though Vietnam has great advantages in material growing area. Remittances to HCM City expected to pick up 9 percent

(Photo: tinnhanhchungkhoan.vn) HCM City (VNA) – Remittances to Ho Chi Minh City are expected to reach some 5.3 billion USD in 2019, a year-on-year surge of 9 percent, despite unfavourable global financial and monetary market, according to Deputy Director of the State Bank of Vietnam’s Ho Chi Minh City branch Nguyen Hoang Minh. Minh said that Vietnamese expatriates remitted roughly 4.3 billion USD to the southern hub as of the end of November. The flow of money has played an important role in economic development as well as stability of foreign currency supply in the city, he stressed. Vietnam was expected to remain one of the top ten remittance recipients in 2019, according to the latest edition of the World Bank’s Migration and Development Brief. Meeting talks sustainable development of agricultural material areas

World Bank Country Director for Vietnam Ousmane Dione addresses the meeting in Hanoi on December 5 (Photo: VNA) Hanoi (VNA) – The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD) held a meeting in Hanoi on December 5 to discuss ways to sustainably develop raw material areas and improve processing capacity and market access for agro-products of Vietnam. MARD Minister Nguyen Xuan Cuong said though the agricultural sector of Vietnam has obtained major achievements, it cannot rest on its laurels due to three challenges, which are the small production scale, climate change impacts and economic integration into the world. He admitted that the country has good agricultural production capacity but the production remains ineffective due to the small scale. Besides, deep processing has just developed for only some commodities like shrimp, tra fish and milk to create products with higher added value. The event, part of activities in the Vietnam Year in Russia and the Russia Year in Vietnam, was organised by the Institute of Economy under the Russian Academy of Sciences.
