A ceremony was held in Maputo (Mozambique) on May 29 by Buddhist monks, nuns, and followers from the Vietnamese community in the country to mark Buddha’s 2563rd birthday. The Vietnam Buddhist Shangha (VBS) coordinated with the Embassy of Vietnam in Mozambique to celebrate the Lord Buddha’s 2563rd birth anniversary in Maputo on May 29. The event drew dignitaries from over 20 religious organisations in Mozambique, along with more than 200 Vietnamese Buddhist followers, business representatives, and people living and working in Maputo. Vietnam’s Ambassador to Poland Vu Dung joins with his wife and the rest of Vietnamese embassy staff at the charity bazaar. The occasion is held annually with the aim of raising funds to support both the elderly and poor people throughout Poland. Ambassador Dung’s wife Vo Thi Hien introduces a wide range of traditional handicraft products to international friends at the Vietnamese booth. The bazaar hosts a total of 200 booths which showcase various handicraft products and local delicacies from each respective nation. Liver cancer becomes most commonly acquired one in Vietnam
The number of liver cancer patients surpassed lung cancer, ranking first in both newly-contracted liver cancer and mortality, each reaching more than 25,000 people in 2019. According to Professor Nguyen Chan Hung, president of the Vietnam Cancer Association, liver cancer is becoming a "great disaster" in the country. The number of liver cancer patients ranks first in both newly-contracted cases and mortality, each reaching more than 25,000 people this year. In comparison with lung cancer, 23,667 people acquired liver cancer and 20,701 died of it in 2018. The main risks of liver cancer are chronic hepatitis B or hepatitis C infection, aflatoxin exposure, heavy alcoholism, obesity, smoking and type 2 diabetes. Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City among Vietnam’s worst on corruption control: PAPI report
Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City are among Vietnamese localities ranked worst in terms of control of corruption, according the 2018 Vietnam Provincial Governance and Public Administration Performance Index (PAPI) report released on Tuesday. Although the report shows that fewer citizens had to pay bribes for state employment, public healthcare, primary education, or construction permits in 2018 as compared to previous years, less than 50 percent of those interviewed agreed that corruption at the national level had decreased in the past three years. Corruption was one of the top three issues of greatest concern in 2018, with nearly 7.4 percent of respondents citing it as their top concern, the report shows. Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City were among the worst ranked localities in terms of corruption control alongside Dak Lak, Hai Phong, Ha Nam and Hoa Binh.
