The national beach handball team scooped the last gold medal Wednesday morning, the final day of the 30th SEA Games hosted by the Philippines. Vietnam scored 19-16 and 20-10 to win the final against Indonesia, palming a total eight team points. Thailand finished second on six points and the Philippines third with four. Vietnam had previously secured gold by remaining undefeated after beating Singapore 2-0 on the first day, defeating Thailand 2-1 and trumping the hosts 2-0 on December 10. The Philippines topped the medal tally with 387, including 149 golds. Thailand nailed 318 medals but only ranked third with 92 golds. Results surpassed Vietnam's target of 65-70 gold medals, highlighted by the historic men's football victory on Tuesday. Expert urges for more flexible visa policy for Vietnam tourism takeoff
A friendly visa policy is among major reasons to help boost the Vietnamese tourism development, said Kenneth Atkinson, vice president of Tourism Advisory Board (TAB). People in Thailand wear face masks due to smog from forest fires (Photo: AFP/VNA) Hanoi (VNA) – Many provinces of Thailand on September 13 started to hand out face masks to people as smog from forest fires in Indonesia hovered over its southern region. Authorities in Hat Yai city, the largest one in Songkhla province in southern Thailand, began handing out face masks to residents and tourists on the day. The Region 16 Environmental Office in Songkhla province reported the level of PM2.5 (particulate matter) at 54 microgrammes per cubic metre of air, which authorities said exceeded the safe threshold set at 50 in Thailand. The level of PM2.5 in Satun province was also above 50, but other provinces remained in the safe zone.
