Some of the illegal immigrants arrested. (Photo: VNA) HCM City (VNA) – Ho Chi Minh City’s police have detected 40 foreigners, all Chinese, who entered Vietnam illegally on March 5-6. Of the people, five were found staying at a hotel and confessed that they came illegally to Vietnam from China’s Fujian province via unofficial channels in Vietnam ’s northern border region, and caught a bus to the city. Thirteen others were found on a bus parked in front of another hotel where the remainders were staying in. The local police have instructed competent forces to collect samples of the people for COVID-19 testing, and put them into quarantine in line with pandemic prevention and control regulations. Particularly, the police force in Go Vap District detected five Chinese nationals without medical declaration at Queen hotel at 537/8 Nguyen Oanh Street, Go Vap District at midnight on March 5. These people admitted to illegally immigrating to Vietnam from Fujian Province (China) by road and then they took an automobile from the North to Ho Chi Minh City. At 1:30 a.m. on March 6, the Criminal Police Division under the HCMC Department of Public Security in coordination with District 1’s Police performed administrative check to the vehicle carrying 13 foreigners parking in front of Symphony hotel at 120 Ly Tu Trong Street, Ben Thanh Ward, District 1. The vehicle was operated by a Go Vap District- based man. Initially, the man confessed that he took these foreigners to Symphony hotel for staying. The Ministry of Health reported the discovery of five fresh COVID-19 cases on March 7, including one in the biggest coronavirus epicenter of Hai Duong, and four imported cases in Kien Giang and Hanoi. With the fresh infections, the national infection tally rose to 2,512, including 1,585 domestically-transmitted cases, and 927 imported cases. Hai Duong remains the locality recording the highest number of local infections with 708 cases since the initial outbreaks recurred in the country on January 27. There have been a total of 1,920 patients having recovered from the disease to date, while the number of deaths related to COVID-19 stays at 35. Among the patients currently receiving treatment for the virus, a total of 259 cases have tested negative for SARS-CoV-2 at least once, with the majority going on to record several negative results.
