Vietnam to face Indonesia first after AFC adjusts World Cup 2021 Qualifiers schedule

Vietnam to prepare for solar power boom

The proportion of solar and wind power projects in the entire national electricity system is expected to increase, requiring thorough preparation because of the instability of these power sources, experts have said. The draft of the eighth national power development plan shows majir changes in power source development from now to 2030 compared with the seventh plan. Under the draft, Vietnam will develop wind and solar power on a large scale, with the capacity of wind power increasing by three times and solar power by two times compared with the adjusted seventh plan. Vietnam will only continue the projects under construction or under investment promotion, to be operational in the 2021-2025 period. The coal-fired thermopower proportion will decrease gradually from 34 percent in 2020 to 27 percent by 2030. Vietnam, Singapore discuss ways to bolster collaboration

Vietnam to fine animal abusers

Animal abusers will be fined from VND1m (USD43) to tens millions of VND as new decree takes effect. illustrative image According to the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, the concept of humane treatment of domestic animals is still new to many people in Vietnam so the administrative fines will be light at first to raise awareness about the law among the public. The punishment was included in Decree 14 issued in 2021 about administrative violations in farming. Head of the communal police departments and chairman of the people's committees of all levels have the authority to issue the fines. Individuals could be fined VND1m (USD43) to VND3m if they beat, cage, or neglect their animals. The fine for an organisation is VND6m. Slaughterhouses that beat animals or do not have any cages to ensure sanitation before slaughtering them will also be fined VND3m to VND5m.
