Viet Nam is seen as a gateway for businesses from the Republic of Korea (RoK) to enter the ASEAN market, said experts at a forum in Ha Noi on December 3. The forum on the RoK’s New Southern Policy and the importance of RoK-Viet Nam relations was co-organised by the National Centre for Socio-economic Information and Forecasting (NCIF) and the Korean Institute for International Economic Policy (KIEP). In his opening speech, NCIF Director Tran Hong Quang said over the past three decades, Viet Nam-RoK relations have seen fine developments in all fields. At present, the RoK is one of the two largest foreign investors in Viet Nam with accumulated capital of US$57.6 billion by the end of 2017. Many Korean goods to receive Viet Nam tax exemption
Korean goods are displayed in Vietnamese supermarkets. — Photo foody.vn Many goods imported from the Republic of Korea (RoK) into Viet Nam will be exempted from import taxes in 2018, due to the Viet Nam-Korea Free Trade Agreement (VKFTA). The Government recently issued Decree No149/2017/ND-CP, which regulates a new special preferential import tariff, as agreed upon in the VKFTA, and to be put in place between 2018 and 2022. Under the decree, import taxes imposed on 704 types of products imported from the RoK to Viet Nam, will be eliminated in 2018. The groups of commodities that will enjoy tax exemptions this year are mainly in seafood, wheat flour, confectionery, diesel fuel, jet fuel, paint, laundry detergent, plastic, iron and steel products, power machinery and equipment, and electronic products. Viet Nam leaded Southeast Asian countries in the number of tourists visiting Japan over the last decade with a growth rate of 868.1 percent, according to the Nikkei website. The country was followed by Thailand and Indonesia, with the respective growth rates of 489.3 percent and 448.7 percent. Last year, about 28.6 million foreign holiday-makers visited Japan, up 19.3 percent year on year. China was the No.1 source of visitors to Japan in the year, accounting for 7.35 million or 25.6 percent of the total. The Republic of Korea was close behind at 7.14 million or 24.8 percent. In 2007, only 942.439 Chinese tourists came to Japan. But the figure soared by 680.5 percent in the period 2007-2017. International visitors to Japan spent a record 4.41 trillion yen (39.87 billion USD in 2017, the site said. Viet Nam shrimp exports remain buoyant
Shrimp exports increased sharply last year and the trend will continue this year, according to the Viet Nam Association of Seafood Exporters and Producers (VASEP).The exports were worth an estimated US$3.8 billion last year, $700 million up from 2016 and $400 million higher than the association’s target.There was big demand for shrimp in key markets such as the EU, China, Japan, and South Korea especially during the year-end festive season, VASEP said.In the first 11 months of last year, the EU was the largest importer of Vietnamese shrimp, with shipments to the market going up by 42.4 per cent to $780 million and accounting for 22.2 per cent of Viet Nam’s exports.Shrimp exports to China surged by 60.2 per cent to $637.9 million in the period, but shipments to the US fell by 7.8 per cent mainly due to high anti-dumping duties.Truong Dinh Hoe, VASEP’s general secretary, said the strong growth in shrimp exports last year was mainly thanks to better control of antibiotic … [Read more...] about Viet Nam shrimp exports remain buoyant
