Viet Nam News By Thu Ngân   HCM CITY – “If you have never lost your deposit while renting a house, you have not grown up yet.” When a young woman entrepreneur said this in jest on Shark Tank, the reality TV show for start-ups, audiences laughed but recognised she was telling it as it was: it is risky and not easy to rent a house in Việt Nam. For a long time the demand for rented houses and condos in cities has kept increasing, mostly from students who leave their hometown and move to cities for study. Renting a house in cities has never been easy for students and other renters because of the high risk of losing one’s deposit or getting ripped off in the form of high rents. Such problems could now become a thing of the past thanks to modern technologies as young entrepreneurs apply big data and use social media to create phone applications for house leasing services. Viet Nam shares recover after sharp global falls

Viet Nam News HÀ NỘI — Vietnamese shares bounced back on Friday following sharp falls earlier this week that had lowered stocks to attractive prices, triggering investors to bottom-fish. The benchmark VN-Index on the HCM Stock Exchange gained 2.56 per cent to close at 970.08 points, reversing its loss of 4.84 per cent in the previous session. For the whole week, the VN-Index fell in three out of five sessions. The index dropped 38.31 points or 3.8 per cent this week. The minor HNX Index on the Hà Nội Stock Exchange rose 2.41 per cent to end at 109.76 points after having decreased by 5.79 per cent on Thursday. More than 291.6 million shares were traded on the two local exchanges, worth VNĐ5.9 trillion (US$252 million). The trading figures were down 36 per cent in both volume and value compared to Thursday’s numbers. Remittances to Viet Nam could fall due to US policies

The remittances come to Viet Nam mainly through four channels – banks, currently accounting for 72 per cent, economic organisations, customs agencies, and the postal system. — Photo vnexpress.net Overseas remittances to Viet Nam are expected to decline mainly due to global factors. Analysts said they include US President Donald Trump’s anti-immigrant policies, the US Federal Reserve’s policy of raising interest rates and the US-China trade war. Statistics from the United Nations Development Programme show that 60 per cent of the remittances to Viet Nam comes from the US while Europe accounts for around 20 per cent. Other major sources are China, South Korea and Japan. International hotel operators flock to Viet Nam’s bustling tourism scene

The Fusion Maia in Da Nang. Viet Nam is quickly emerging as a top global travel destination and a key focus market for international hotel groups. The country is among the 10 fastest growing tourist destinations in the world, according to the United Nations World Tourism Organisation (UNWTO)’s 2018 Tourism Highlights Report. Overall tourist numbers rose by 19 per cent to 86 million last year, while the number of international arrivals increased by a whopping 29 per cent. The luxury hotel sector continued to see a better year with EBITDA (earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization) last year increasing by 1.7 per cent, according to Grant Thornton Vietnam’s 2018 Hotel Survey. RevPAR (Revenue per available room) for hotels continued to grow, but at different rates for each star ranking — 7.6 per cent for four-star hotels and 10.2 per cent for five-star — the survey showed. Viet Nam – attractive destination for estate investors

Viet Nam will become an attractive destination for real estate investment and business because of the high demand for housing, industrial park infrastructure, shopping malls, and tourism property. Minister of Construction Pham Hong Ha made the statement at the three-day International Real Estate Conference 2018 (IREC) under the theme “Viet Nam: A World of Opportunities” which opened in Ha Noi on Thursday. More than 300 international guests and thousands of Vietnamese delegates took part in the event. Belgium to support Viet Nam in urban planning

Belgium and its Flanders region are keen to cooperate with Viet Nam and the capital city of Ha Noi to strengthen global partnership in the field of urbanisation. This was said by Geert Bourgeois, Minister-President of Flanders, at a seminar held in Ha Noi on Monday. He believed the pace of urbanisation was growing significantly, especially in Asia, and that Viet Nam was no exception. Diverse activities creating a cheerful and exciting festival atmosphere during spring are taking place at the Viet Nam National Village for Ethnic Culture and Tourism in January. Activities will draw the participation of more than 100 people from Tay, Dao, Mong, Thai, Muong, Kho Mu, Ta Oi, Co Tu, Raglai, E De and Khmer ethnic minority groups from ten localities, including Thai Nguyen, Hanoi, Ha Giang, Son La, Hoa Binh, Dien Bien, Thua Thien - Hue, Ninh Thuan, Dak Lak and Soc Trang. Artists from Viet Nam Cheo Theatre and Viet Nam National Puppetry Theatre, and students from Hanoi University of Culture will also participate in activities.
