A man received a positive COVID-19 test result on Sunday in Bac Lieu Province, located in Vietnam’s Mekong Delta region, following a medical check-up required by his potential employer. This is considered a suspected case because the Ministry of Health has yet to register it. The case in question is T.V.T., 49, who hails from Soc Trang Province, also located in the Mekong Delta, according to a report by the Bac Lieu Center for Disease Control. T. claimed to have never left his hometown nor had any contact with coronavirus patients or suspected cases in the last 14 days. On Saturday, T. and six other people traveled on motorbikes to a wind power company in Bac Lieu City, which is the provincial capital, to seek jobs. ROME -- Italy reported 280 coronavirus-related deaths on Saturday against 253 the day before, the health ministry said, while the daily tally of new infections declined to 18,916 from Friday’s 20,499. Some 323,047 tests for COVID-19 were carried out in the past day, compared with 325,404 previously, the ministry said. Italy has registered 97,507 deaths linked to COVID-19 since its outbreak emerged in February last year, the second-highest toll in Europe after Britain and the seventh-highest in the world. The country has reported 2.91 million cases to date. Patients in hospital with COVID-19, excluding those in intensive care, stood at 18,372 on Saturday, increasing from 18,292 a day earlier. Among the total, 1,530 were locally infected, including 837 cases since January 27. A total 1,844 COVID-19 patients have recovered so far, and the death toll remains at 35. Among those still under treatment, 32 have tested negative for SARS-CoV-2 once, 50 twice and 100 thrice.
