In Trang An, Ninh Binh (Photo: VNA) Hanoi (VNA) – The National Tourism Year 2020 will be launched in the northern province of Ninh Binh on February 20, 2020, heard a press conference in Hanoi on December 10. The closing ceremony is scheduled for December 2020. Vietnam Youth Federation’s eighth national congress opens
At the event (Photo: VNA) Hanoi (VNA) – The eighth National Congress of the Vietnam Youth Federation (VYF) for the 2019 – 2024 tenure officially opened in Hanoi on December 10. With 1,000 officials and outstanding youths at home and abroad taking part, the three-day event will review the VYF’s activities and youth movements during the seventh tenure, the implementation of the resolution adopted at the previous congress, and the movement “I love my country”. With the motto “Vietnamese Youth – Patriotism, Creativity, Volunteering, Integration, Development”, the congress plans to continue spreading the movement “I love my country” across the nation. During the 2014 – 2019 tenure, 80 percent of VYF chapters at communal and district levels and 100 percent of provincial-level chapters honoured youths with outstanding achievements in various areas. US official urges Pacific Island nations to keep ties with Taiwan
U.S. Acting Assistant Secretary for Southeast Asia W. Patrick Murphy also said the United States was keen to help Pacific countries protect their sovereignty, in a region where the United States and is allies are competing for influence with China. "Our encouragement on countries that have relations with Taiwan is to maintain the status quo," Murphy told reporters in Canberra, on a three-day visit to Australia. China claims self-ruled and democratic Taiwan as sacred Chinese territory and merely a province with no right to state-to-state ties. Taiwan is one of a growing number of flashpoints in the U.S.-China relationship, which include a trade war, U.S. sanctions and China's increasingly muscular military posture in the South China Sea. SEA Games: Vietnamese swimmer sets new record as nation ups tally
Nguyen Huy Hoang, a 19-year-old swimmer from Quang Binh Province, set a new record in men’s 400m freestyle race with a time of 3 minutes and 49.08 seconds, beating the previous record of 3 minutes 50.56 seconds set by Malaysia's Sim Welson in 2017. While Hoang had the slowest start with a 0.72 second reaction time and was not in the top 3, things changed at the 150m mark when he was 0.01 second faster than his Malaysian rival and finished first with a 0.47 second lead. "This is my first gold medal and also the first gold medal for the national swimming team today. I hope this will boost the spirits of fellow team members," he said.
