Vietnam applies for UN Human Rights Council membership

The Hanoitimes - The UN Human Rights Committee notes Vietnam’s efforts to comply with its Covenant obligations, but incompatibility still remains between its legal framework and the Covenant. Vietnam has announced its postulation to the UN Human Rights Council as ASEAN candidate for the 2023-25 term. July 13-19: NA Standing Committee convenes 46th session

NA Standing Committee convenes 46th session The National Assembly (NA) Standing Committee held its 46th session in Hanoi from July 13-14. The NASC gave opinions on several contentious issues in the draft revised law on Vietnamese guest workers with contracts; the amendments to the draft law on International Treaties; and the implementation of new regulations in the Law on NA Organisation. The committee also discussed the reviewing of the NA’s 9th session and made initial comments on preparations for the 10th session of the 14th National Assembly. The working programme also included personnel work, several decrees, and other contents. At the closing session, the NASC passed a resolution on the new environmental tax on jet fuel.
