Illustrative image (Source: VNA) Hanoi (VNA) — Green tourism will be the main theme of the Vietnam International Travel Mart (VITM) 2019, which is scheduled for March 27 – 30 in Hanoi. Organised by Vietnam Tourism Association (VITA), the annual expo has so far received registration from businesses and travel management agencies across 39 provinces and cities nationwide as well as 22 countries and territories worldwide. Participating booths are expected to offer more than 18,000 tour packages and 40,000 air tickets with special discounts at the event. The mart also covers forums, including one on green tourism, which will attract some 1,000 participants from public agencies, businesses and universities. China has been the biggest inbound tourism market for Vietnam for many years. However, the No 1 position has been shaken with the strong rise of the South Korean market. Reports show that the gap in numbers of travelers from the two biggest markets is getting narrower. The growth rate of the South Korean market continues to increase, while the growth rate of the Chinese market has decreased or increased very slightly. Vietnam received more than 2.4 million South Korean travelers, up by 22.1 percent. China and South Korea accounted for 54 percent of total number of foreign travelers to Vietnam recently. In 2017, the number of Chinese travelers to Vietnam was 1.59 million higher than South Korean. The difference got narrower last year to 1.48 million, while it was 490,000 only in the first seven months of 2019. Many have flocked to the Vaccination Center for Children and Adults (VNVC) in Phu Nhuan District in order to be injected with rabies vaccines, said Bach Thi Chinh, a doctor at the facility. They are residents in the city or come from neighboring provinces like Binh Duong, Dong Nai and Long An, or even from as far afield as An Giang and Kien Giang in the Mekong Delta. On April 5, 76 people arrived at the center for rabies vaccination, compared to only 30 to 50 patients on normal days, according to VNVC figures. A truck collided head-on with a tractor truck on the stretch of National Highway No 6 passing through northern Son La Province’s Chieng Hac Commune early this morning.
