A corner of the U Minh Thuong National Park (Photo: VNA) Kien Giang (VNA) - The U Minh Thuong National Park in the Mekong Delta ’s Kien Giang province has built a digital map on areas at high risk of forest fires in an attempt to prevent and tackle such disasters during the 2020-2021 dry season, Deputy Director of the park Tran Van Thang has said. The park has also devised measures to fight forest fires and deploy personnel along with vehicles in wildfire suppression efforts, so as to minimise losses as concerns rise about widespread and prolonged heat and drought. It has taken the initiative in water storage for firefighting and the development of cajuput forests, as well as strengthened six sluices and built two dykes. Vietnam’s Covid-19 testing capacity improves: DPM
The Hanoitimes - Vietnam has stepped up testing under the instructions of the Ministry of Health, including rapid tests and PCR tests. Vietnam’s Covid-19 testing capacity has much improved in terms of both test kit production and machinery, local media quoted Deputy Prime Minister Vu Duc Dam as saying. Speaking at a meeting of the National Steering Committee for Covid-19 Prevention and Control on August 9, Mr. Dam said Vietnam has stepped up testing under the instructions of the Ministry of Health, including rapid tests and PCR tests. However, it is hard to conduct Covid-19 tests for the entire population, even the population in a province in a short time, the deputy PM stressed, adding that the most effective solution to the pandemic still lies in early detection, fast contact tracing and pool testing. Border Guard Academy responds to the tree-planting festival
Major General Nguyen Anh Tuan, Political Chief of the Border Guard Command; Major General Trinh Hoang Hiep, Director of the Border Guard Academy; Senior Colonel Nguyen Thai Sinh, Political Commissar of the academy; and other high-ranking officers attended the event. Speaking at the launching ceremony, Senior Colonel Sinh said that the academy has set a goal to plant 10,000 green trees in 2021.
