According to recent statistics by the Preventive Medicine Department, 20,000 people die of liver cancer each year in Vietnam, of which untreated hepatitis B and HCV are the leading causes of cirrhosis and liver cancer. Ninety percent of people with HCV are not aware of the infection. It is often called a ‘silent killer’ because it has no obvious symptoms but can be extremely dangerous and, in some cases, life threatening, medical experts said. The ministry said the number of deaths caused by hepatitis B and C was the same as the number of people dying from HIV/AIDS and tuberculosis in Vietnam. Photo: Le Toan In December and January, when the country began to be hit by a resurgence of COVID-19, a team of specialists from the ASEAN+3 Macroeconomic Research Office (AMRO), a regional macroeconomic surveillance organisation based in Singapore, held a virtual annual consultation with Vietnamese authorities. Looking it up later, I was even more impressed by the concept and the menu. Etesia is a “kitchen counter” restaurant serving contemporary European cuisine, with chefs at work in a fully open kitchen. Countertop dining has been heating up the restaurant scene in major cities around the world. It’s a place to see -- the kitchen, the chefs, and the action -- and to be seen. Etesia’s Executive Chef Benjamin Morelle has experience as a sous chef at a 1-star Michelin restaurant in Paris. After months of anticipation, my friends and I finally managed to find the time to enjoy what the restaurant has to offer.
