(Photo: VNA) Hanoi (VNA) – Vietnamese poetry and music hit the airwaves in the US on February 11, with the programme “Lanterns hanging on the wind” broadcast on several university radio stations. Stations including Radio Free Charlotte and SUNY Potsdam radio (New York) aired the programme co-produced by Melodically Challenged, a weekly radio show of Georgia State University, and poet Nguyen Phan Que Mai. The recording featured the works of 18 poets, including Tuyet Nga, Luu Quang Vu, Xuan Quynh, Nguyen Quang Thieu, Bui Hoang Tam, Tran Quang Quy and Giang Nam. It took Mai two years to choose the poems which feature patriotism, romantic love and love for the Vietnamese language, and contact several authors and translators. Indonesian martial art pencak silat gets UNESCO heritage status
Anwar bin Sholeh had something to cheer when he showed up at a Jakarta training centre to practice pencak silat -- the Indonesian martial art was added to UNESCO's prestigious heritage list. "It's an honour that pencak silat has been recognised internationally," the 38-year-old, who has been practising the art since elementary school, told AFP. "This will motivate us to preserve our traditions and culture," he added. The high-speed boat route linking the island district of Phu Quoc and Nam Du Archipelago of Kien Hai District, Kien Giang Province, officially opened on December 14. All cabins are equipped with air-conditioners, comfortable seats, LCD TV’s, toilets and a VIP cabin, with music and a movie system. The president of a university in Ho Chi Minh City has been accused of wastefulness building an artificial pine tree on the campus, whereas a university officer claims that both his school and alumni provide the fund for it. The school has allowed and supported the students in decorating the ‘smart pine tree’ for Christmas and New Year for the last four years, in line with its principles of education, according to Dr. Do Van Dung, president of the university.
