Vietnamese researchers win Inoue Yasushi Award
Hanoi (VNA) - Three researchers and a student of Vietnam were honoured with the Inoue Yasushi Award for their PhD theses on Japanese literature, at a ceremony held by the Japan Foundation Centre for Cultural Exchange in Vietnam and the Inoue Yasushi Memorial Foundation on January 18. A first prize was awarded to Chau Hong Thao for her excellent writing about the memory and dreams in novels written by Haruki Murakami and Kazuo Ishiguro. Nguyen Huu Minh won a second prize for his writing on the existential beauty in a novel by Natsume Soseki, while Nguyen Anh Tuan’s essay on the poetry of female poets in the books of Kokinshu and Manyoshu earned him a third prize. Over 220 Vietnamese citizens brought home from Japan
Hanoi (VNA) - More than 220 Vietnamese citizens were brought home from Japan on October 6 on a flight arranged by Vietnamese authorities, the Vietnamese Embassy in Japan, Vietjet Air and Japanese competent agencies. The passengers included children aged under 18; pregnant women; the elderly; the illnesses; guest workers whose contracts expired; students whose dormitories closed and other people in extremely difficult circumstances. The Vietnamese Embassy sent staff to the airport to assist them with boarding procedures. Vietjet strictly implemented in-flight security and disease prevention measures to prevent the spread of the novel coronavirus SARS-CoV-2. Soc Trang: Poverty rate plunges to 2.66 pct. in five years
Soc Trang (VNA) - The poverty rate in the Mekong Delta province of Soc Trang fell from 17.89 percent in 2016 to 2.66 percent in 2020 thanks to the effectiveness of the National Target Programme on Sustainable Poverty Reduction. The result was revealed by Ma Chi Thanh, Deputy Director of the provincial Department of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs during a conference reviewing the five-year implementation of the programme in the Mekong Delta province on January 19. Thanh said that the number of poor households in Soc Trang was more than 57,800 in 2016, with Khmer ethnic minority families accounting for nearly 27 percent of the total. Five years later, the number was brought down to just over 8,610, or 2.66 percent of the total, he noted, adding that only 4.13 percent of Khmer ethnic minority households were classified as poor last year.
