Vietnamese movie “Taste” competes in Berlin International Film Festival

The film competes in the Encounters – a competitive section devoted to new cinematic visions, with other 11 films. A three-member jury will choose winners for the best film, best director and a special jury award. “Vi” is about a Nigerian football player playing in the Vietnamese football league. After he breaks his leg, he is forced to leave the team and find a job in a sex parlor to provide for his wife and son back home. Bao got the idea for the film years ago based on his high-school memories. At that time, he saw black men on buses while going to school. Bao was obsessed by these men who seemed to have overcome some significant challenges. First-time filmmaker Bao has composed a delicate, sensory meditation that conjures up many a thought in the viewer’s mind. In “Vi” the actors are amateurs, including the call girls. Exhibition of female portrait celebrates Int’l Women’s Day

Pictures were taken by 15 young artists in three-day workshops which were organized in HCMC and Hue City in January. The authors present to viewers portraits of female members in their families in daily activities as well as emphasize the women’s role in daily life. The exhibits are expected to touch the hearts of audiences. The exhibition will run until April 11. The display is one of activities celebrating International Women’s Day (on March 8) organized by the French Institute in HCMC at the Institute of Cultural Exchange with France (IDECAF), including a discussion on gender equality titled “Vietnamese women today” with the participation of representatives of the French NGO organization Planète Enfants & Développement (PE&D) in Vietnam, Mexican Ambassador Sara Valdes Bolano, psychologist Ly Thi Mai, and Le Thi Hong Anh, head of Human Resources of Sanofi Vietnam. Embassy hosts New Year gathering with overseas Vietnamese in Belgium

Voluntary blood donation event held in Dien Bien province

A man donates his blood at the Red Spring Festival in Dien Bien province on March 5 (Photo: VNA) Dien Bien (VNA) – The Red Spring Festival, a voluntary blood donation event, is taking place in the northern mountainous province of Dien Bien on March 5, with more than 300 people coming to register. This activity aims to encourage people in good health from all social strata to donate blood, helping to address the blood shortage in medical treatment after the Lunar New Year holiday, especially after a hiatus in donation activities due to the COVID-19 resurgence. Disease prevention measures were carried out to ensure safety for participants, organisers said. The event is expected to collect more than 210 blood units. Hanoi plans to reopen historical, religious sites from March 8
