The Hanoitimes - The Kinh te & Do thi newspaper calls on benefactors to support the poor and flood victims in Vietnam's central region. The Kinh te & Do thi (Economic and Urban) newspaper, the organ of the Hanoi People's Committee, has launched a charity program named "Joining hands to support flood victims in central Vietnam." Storms Linfa and Nangka have brought torrential rains, causing severe floods and mudslides in central Vietnam in the past two weeks. The historic calamities have left at least 111 people dead and dozens missing as of October 21, according to the Central Steering Committee for the Prevention and Control of Natural Disasters. In addition, some 178,000 homes, 7,000 hectares of crops have been damaged and 700,000 livestock have died, according to official data. The Hanoitimes - Outside of official funding, Vietnamese nationwide have contributed to many relief funds, big and small, to help flood victims in central Vietnam. After days of being battered by adverse weather conditions, provinces in central Vietnam need all the help they can get, in-kind and in-cash, from fellow citizens. Since the beginning of October, non-stop downpours have wreaked havoc on Quang Nam, Thua Thien-Hue, Quang Tri, Quang Binh and Ha Tinh provinces. According to the Central Steering Committee for the Prevention and Control of Natural Disasters, from October 6 to 22, the natural disaster resulted in at least 111 deaths and 22 people missing.
