The benchmark index added 1.54 points, or 0.13%, to close at 1,175.04 points. Winning stocks outnumbered losers by 170 to 160. There were more than 630 million shares worth some VND15.3 trillion changing hands on the southern market, increasing 8.9% in volume and 3.7% in value compared with the previous session. Bank stocks contributed significantly to VN-Index’s increase of 0.22% on Tuesday – PHOTO: THANH HOA HCMC – Bank stocks were the main driver of the local stock market today, February 23, helping the VN-Index of the Hochiminh Stock Exchange add 0.22%, or 2.6 points, to close the day at 1,177.64 points. The southern market saw winning stocks outnumber losers by 233 to 201. There were 598.2 million shares worth over VND15.4 trillion changing hands, falling 5% in volume but increasing 1% in value against the session earlier. Bank stocks were outstanding performers, with the biggest gainers being TCB and MBB, which soared 3.1% to VND39,800 and 2.6% to VND27,400, respectively. The VN-Index of the Hochiminh Stock Exchange lost 1.33% today, February 24 – PHOTO: THANH HOA HCMC - The VN-Index of the Hochiminh Stock Exchange lost 1.33%, or 15.63 points, on Wednesday to end at 1,162.01 points in a session that a system error clogged the at-the-close phase. The market barely fluctuated in the morning. Early in the afternoon, the VN-Index suddenly lost over 23 points to below 1,155 points. The strong cash flow then helped the benchmark index recover. However, a technical error occurred, clogging trade after 2 p.m. The southern market saw losing stocks far outnumber winners by 357 to 93. There were 603 million shares worth over VND15 trillion changing hands, falling slightly in volume and 2.6% in value against the session earlier. The index, which represents an improvement from the previous month if it rises above 50, has now strengthened for three successive months, according to a note by market research company IHS Markit. There has been sustained growth in new orders for six straight months amid signs of improving international demand, the report said. Employment increased for the second time in three months as firms responded to rises in demand and production requirements, it added. Factories in some provinces like Binh Duong and Dong Nai in the south and Bac Giang in the north are struggling as they need thousands of new workers following a surge in new orders. Yet IHS Markit’s data showed that business confidence continued to wane in February, the third straight month it fell and at the lowest level since last August, after 865 new Covid-19 cases were found following the latest outbreak on January 28.
