Foreign investors rush to invest in smart city projects

Anticipating the growing demand, international companies are rushing to invest in smart city projects in Vietnamese cities. Chairman Chung worked with the leader of Sumitomo Corporation Nguyen Duc Chung, Chairman of the Hanoi People's Committee, has worked with the leader of Sumitomo Corporation—the investor of the $4.1 billion smart city project in Dong Anh district—on the sidelines of the Hanoi 2018-Investment and Development Cooperation conference, which opened on June 17. Sumitomo Corporation is one of the corporations from Sweden, Germany, and the Netherlands, among others, who made strong moves to cash in on Vietnamese cities' ambitious smart city development plans. Bosch Vietnam has invested $450,000 in a new centre to study new solutions to build smart cities and Industry 4.0-ready equipment. Hanoi, Dell to cooperate in building e-government, smart city

ASEAN Smart Cities Network to foster sustainable growth: report

The ASEAN Smart Cities Network (ASCN), including Viet Nam’s three largest cities, will enable Southeast Asia to sustainably develop its cities, further optimise the region’s burgeoning internet economies, and elevate ASEAN’s international relevance, according to an HSBC report. Ha Noi, HCM City and Da Nang will be part of the ASCN proposed by Singapore, as announced by Singaporean PM Lee Hsien Loong during a recent official visit to Singapore of Vietnamese PM Nguyen Xuan Phuc. As part of the concept note, released by the ASEAN secretariat, the two governments will develop a platform to share best practices, link member cities with private investment, and secure funding from multilateral funding institutions. IFC to assist in building smart city

At the meeting, the municipal leader lauded the group’s investment in Vietnam, including many large-scale projects and constructions in HCM City. The city will work to improve investment climate and create optimal conditions for the operation of foreign investors and the Keppel Land Limited in particular, he said. Australia announces 23.4 mln USD fund for ASEAN’s smart cities

(Photo: AFP/VNA) Sydney (VNA) – Australian Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull on March 17 announced Australia will provide an investment of 30 million AUD (23.4 million USD) to support “smart cities” in Southeast Asia. Australian Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU) named Melbourne the world’s most livable city in 2017 for a seventh consecutive year while Perth and Adelaide always made to the Top 10, said Turnbull during his keynote address in a special conference with 10 ASEAN member country leaders on the sidelines of the ASEAN-Australia Special Summit. However, some ASEAN cities, such as Indonesia’s Jakarta, the Philippines’ Manila, and Thailand’s Bangkok were ranked near the bottom of the list, he added.
