VND20 billion offered for home-grown COVID-19 vaccine clinical trial study

Oxfam: Health spending in poor countries must double to prevent millions of deaths

Photo: Wael Algadi Oxfam today called for a package of nearly $160 billion in immediate debt cancellation and aid to fund a Global Public Health Plan and Emergency Response and help prevent millions of deaths as a result of the coronavirus.The five-point plan of this Global Public Health Plan and Emergency Response would enable poor countries to take action to prevent the spread of the disease and build up the capacity of health systems to care for those affected. The pandemic has caused widespread suffering in rich countries, overwhelming some of the best healthcare systems in the world. Da Nang city set to become special urban area

(Photo: VNA) Hanoi - The central city of Da Nang is set to be part of the global supply chain network and a gateway on the East-West Economic Corridor by 2030, a meeting in Hanoi on March 1 heard. Discussing adjustments to the city’s master planning by 2030 with a vision towards 2045, the meeting was presided over by Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc. By 2030, the city is also expected to become a destination for global lifestyles, a centre of tourism and services, and a maritime economic hub in Vietnam and the region at large. In the long term, it eyes becoming a special urban area and an international city. Its population is predicted to stand at about 1.79 million by 2030 and its urban area is to cover 31,836 ha, or more than 32 percent of the local land area. VN-Index moves closer to January peak

The session started off with a 11-point rise in the first 21 minutes of trading and remained in the green throughout the day before closing with a 17.7-point gain, the first double-digit point increase recorded in the last seven sessions. Trading volume on the Ho Chi Minh City Stock Exchange (HoSE), on which the index is based, rose 7.7 percent to VND16.02 trillion ($693.4 million), highest in the last 10 sessions. The bourse saw 358 stocks gain and 85 lose. VN-Index now needs another 0.67-percent gain to reach the 1,194-point peak it reached on January 15 before falling to the 1,020 range. The VN30 basket, comprising the 30 largest capped stocks on the HoSE, saw 27 tickers gain, leading with SBT of sugar producer Thanh Thanh Cong – Bien Hoa Jsc, up 5.5 percent. Number of foreign visitors to Vietnam in February falls sharply

Foreign tourists mainly were technical experts and skilled workers who are allowed to enter Vietnam to work, and truck drivers transporting goods through international border gates. In the first two months, the country welcomed 28,700 foreign visitors, a year-on-year decrease of 99.1 percent. According to the report, HCMC saw a decline of 14.1 percent, Ba Ria-Vung Tau Province and Da Nang City decreased 15.9 and 16.1 percent, Hanoi and Hai Duong slid 7.6 and 7.8 percent compared with last year. Tourism revenue fell 62.1 percent over the same period last year to VND2,500 billion (US$108.6 million). The most severe drops were seen in Hanoi at 47.7 percent, Da Nang by 67.7 percent, HCMC by 69.2 percent, Thua Thien-Hue Province by 73.3 percent and Hai Duong Province by 89.4.
