Acting on complaints that the karaoke parlor run by MTV Young Music Company in Ben Luc Town was opening past midnight, dozens of police officers raided the facility and caught 70 customers high on drugs. The officers found many plastic bags containing white crystals looking like meth on the tables and several implements used to administer drugs. A quick test showed 70 people tested positive for drugs and were taken to local police station pending further investigation. While heroin has been the traditional hard-core drug used in Veitnam, synthetic drugs like methamphetamine have become more popular among young partygoers in recent years. Music shows bring Christmas cheer to HCM City

HCMC set to make 27 pct of national budget collection
The latest estimation is 3.3 percent higher than the target, Ho Chi Minh City party chief Nguyen Thien Nhan said at a municipal meeting Friday. The city’s gross regional domestic product (GRDP) is expected to climb 8.3 percent over last year to more than VND1,300 trillion ($56.2 billion). Regarding foreign investment, HCMC might attract $8 billion from both fresh and operational projects, or 22 percent of last year’s total sum. "The city has tried hard since the year’s beginning and this is a respectable result," Nhan said. He also mentioned changes in economic structure of the city, saying that back in 2005, state-run firms made up 32 percent of the city’s economy, the private sector, 51 percent and the rest, the foreign investment sector.
