Vietnam wins Indonesia rice deal for one million tonsTrung Chanh By Trung Chanh - The Saigon Times Daily HCMC - Vietnam has won a contract to sell one million tons of rice to Indonesia with delivery scheduled from October to March 2016 after it secured a government-to-government (G2G) contract to supply 450,000 tons of rice for the Philippines last month. The leader of a big rice exporting firm in the Mekong Delta confirmed the new rice export contract when reached by the Daily but did not give further details about the contract with Indonesia. However, Lam Anh Tuan, director of Thinh Phat Co. Ltd. in Ben Tre Province, a member of the Vietnam Food Association (VFA), said the rice supply for Indonesia comprises 750,000 tons of 15% broken rice and 250,000 tons of 5% broken rice. As the excitement builds ahead of the final of the Asian Football Confederation Under-23 Championship, all eyes are on the two title contenders, Vietnam and Uzbekistan. Neither team has ever made it beyond the group stage of the biennial championship prior to this year. Vietnam and Indonesia will co-host the 2010 AFF Suzuki Cup, announced the ASEAN Football Federation (AFF) at a meeting on July 13-14. The tournament’s format will remain the same as in 2006 and 2008. Accordingly, Laos, Brunei, Cambodia, the Philippines and East Timor will compete in the preliminary round and the top two teams will be selected for the final round together with six others, namely Thailand, Indonesia, Singapore, Myanmar, Malaysia and Vietnam.
