Poor people prioritized in Vietnam’s Covid-19 vaccination plan

Factors that characterized the poor include large size of household, low education and skills, dependency on agriculture, remoteness in rural mountainous areas, lack of supporting infrastructure. Thailand begins COVID-19 vaccinations

(Photo: AFP/VNA) Bangkok (VNA) - Thailand kicked off its COVID-19 inoculation campaign on February 28, with cabinet ministers, health officials and medical professionals among the first in the queue to receive vaccinations. The first doses of vaccine, developed by China’s Sinovac Biotech, were given to Deputy Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul, who is also the health minister, among others at an infectious diseases institute on the outskirts of Bangkok. Anutin Charnvirakuk hoped that the vaccination will result in people being safe from the spread of COVID-19 and it allows Thailand to return to normal as soon as possible. Prime Minister Prayuth Chan-ocha, 66, attended the event, although his age falls outside the range of 18 to 59 suitable to receive Sinovac’s CoronaVac vaccine, so he did not get it. No fresh COVID-19 infections recorded on early March 1, 1,876 recoveries

Of the total figure, 1,542 were locally infected, including 849 domestic cases since January 27 when a new COVID-19 wave broke out. Hai Duong remains the nation’s biggest coronavirus hotspot with a total of 665 local transmissions confirmed so far. Of these, ten localities have gone through 16 straight days without recording any new locally-transmitted cases of COVID-19. On February 28 the Ministry of Health reported the discovery of a community infection in Bac Lieu province in the Mekong Delta. The case is a 49-year-ol-man who tested positive for the virus through the first screening, however, his test result was confirmed negative later by the Ho Chi Minh City Pasteur Institute. Saigon medics break their back to track Covid-19

It had taken just 30 minutes for Cong, deputy head of the laboratory and diagnostic imaging department at the Binh Thanh District medical center, to finish preparing swabbing kits, protective clothing and necessary documents. It was still dark as the 36-year-old Cong, along with four colleagues, began conducting random Covid-19 tests in areas around the Mien Dong (Eastern Region) Bus Station in Saigon for the 12th day. From 5 a.m. to 7 a.m., they worked with local medics to take 100 samples of people from Hanoi and the provinces of Gia Lai, Kon Tum and Dak Lak in the Central Highlands. Six COVID-19 cases reported on February 27

Taking samples for COVID-19 tests (Photo: VNA) Hanoi, (VNA) – Six COVID-19 cases were detected over the past 12 hours to 6pm February 27, raising the national tally to 2,432, according to the National Steering Committee for COVID-19 Prevention and Control. All the new cases were found in quarantine facilities in the northern province of Hai Duong. Among patients still under treatment, 32 have tested negative for SARS-CoV-2 once, 50 twice and 100 thrice. As of February 27 afternoon, 10 provinces and cities had gone through 14 consecutive days without new locally-infected cases of COVID-19.
