Accelerating the development of the private sector and expanding domestic private finance are key priorities for Viet Nam to meet the financial requirements of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), a United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) report launched yesterday reveals. The Development Finance Assessment Report entitled ‘Financing Sustainable Development in Viet Nam’ uses the lens of the Integrated National Financing Framework to analyse the composition, characteristics and trends of Viet Nam’s development finance and development investment resources with comparisons to other countries mainly from ASEAN. VN presents Voluntary National Review on launching SDGs
Deputy Minister of Planning and Investment Nguyen The Phuong delivered the VNR to the High-Level Political Forum (HLPF) on Sustainable Development of the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) in New York on July 16. Viet Nam’s sustainable development viewpoint is integrated in socio-economic development strategies and plans and specified in the national action plan to implement the 2030 Agenda with 115 specific goals in line with the national development priorities and conditions. The nation’s remarkable achievements include the gross domestic product growth of 6.7%, 6.2% and 6.8% in 2015, 2016 and 2017, respectively and the rate of multidimensional poverty reduced from 9.9% in 2015 to 7% in 2017. Workshop talks good governance towards achieving SDGs
At the workshop (Source:http://www.dangcongsan.vn) Hanoi (VNA) - A consultative workshop on the research report “Implementing sustainable development goals (SDGs) in Vietnam and the Open Government Partnership (OGP) initiative” was held in Hanoi on May 17 by the Towards Transparency (TT) organisation. It was part of activities in the project to promote the implementation of OGP initiative in the country funded by the Belgian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Embassy of Denmark in Vietnam. Christian Brix Moller, a representative from the Embassy of Denmark, in his opening speech, revealed that all member countries of OGP are using the initiative as a tool to improve the national governance efficiency, and increase public confidence in their commitment to promoting publicity, transparency, accountability and corruption combat, towards bringing prosperity for the countries and their people. IPU pledges cooperation with Vietnam in realising SDGs
During a meeting with National Assembly Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan in Hanoi on January 20, Martin Chungong appreciated Vietnam’s effort in hosting the 26th Annual Meeting of the Asia-Pacific Parliamentary Forum (APPF-26). He affirmed that the IPU always works hard to promote cooperation with its member parliaments, and support their relations with the United Nations. He said that the SDGs self-assessment toolkit for parliaments, built by the IPU and the United Nations Development Program (UNDP), which was announced in Vietnam in May 2017, will work well for Vietnam, adding that he will look for financial assistance for the printing and publishing of the toolkit book in Vietnam.
