Russian contemporary ballet to be performed in Hanoi

March 15, 2018 by robert Leave a Comment

The Firebird by Russian composer Igor Stravinsky was first performed in Paris in 1910. The composer’s score for The Firebird is noted for marking the transformation of ballet from classical to modernist form. The ballet is based on Russian folk tales which feature a magical glowing bird that is a blessing and a curse to its captor. What The Firebird had was a magical power, which he offered to serve a prince who had captured him, in return for the bird’s freedom. The prince went on to fall in love with one of a gaggle of young princesses, all of whom offered a playful performance. Enter the bad guys, led by the Tyrant, who proceeded to plunder the princesses. The prince called on the Firebird to intervene in this clash between good and evil before peace and order were restored. Dancers Phan Van Luong and Dam Han Giang in The Firebird ballet. Russian ice princess ‘can’t believe’ fairytale Olympic gold

February 23, 2018 by robert Leave a Comment

Teenage figure skating sensation Alina Zagitova expressed disbelief Friday after winning her duel with Evgenia Medvedeva to claim Russia's first gold medal at the Pyeongchang Olympics. The 15-year-old took the women's title for the Olympic Athletes from Russia by a slender margin of just 1.31 points from her friend, compatriot, training partner and arch rival. Bronze went to Canada's Kaetlyn Osmond. "I can't believe I'm the champion," said Zagitova after a fairytale debut season on the senior ciruit. "It'll take some time to sink in." She beat two-time world champion Medvedeva despite both scoring matching 156.65 points in the free-skating. "I did not get the feeling I'm the Olympic champion, I haven't got my medal yet! When I learned that I'd come first I felt very happy, but also very empty." That feeling of emptyness came from being unable to take in immediately the realisation that the thing she had been striving for over the years, the fruit of all those 100s of hours of … [Read more...] about Russian ice princess ‘can’t believe’ fairytale Olympic gold
