Viet Nam News HÀ NỘI — The Ministry of Transport on Monday requested the Railway Project Management Board strengthen oversight to ensure safety and security on the Cát Linh- Hà Đông elevated railway. The move was made after materials and equipment reportedly stolen from stations and depots of the railway project. Since August 1, the line has been connected to the national power grid for trial operation. Therefore, another important task for the project management board is to ensure the safety of its electricity system. The project EPC (Engineering, Procurement and Construction) general contractor, the China Railway Sixth Group (CRSG), was asked to strengthen security personnel presence, install surveillance cameras and fences to control people entering the station and prevent unauthorised persons from entering the construction site. Built at a total cost of 1.176 billion EUR, the Nhon-Hanoi Railway Station project has a total length of 12.5km, comprising an 8.5km aerial track that will connect Nhon depot with Thu Le Zoo and a 4km-long underground track that will link Thu Le with the Hanoi Railway Station. Phuong added that to date, the construction of the segment was 95 per cent completed and 80 per cent of the equipment has been imported and is ready to be deployed. The Ministry of Transport has made several adjustments to key positions in the railway sector in order to improve services. Railway sector has major personnel changes The move comes after many complaints. One anonymous source from the Ministry of Transport said that the leaders of Railway Project Management Unit (RPMU) had been passing on their responsibilities between each other because nobody wanted to made decisions. Doan Tang Ong, head of the unit, even said that he did not want this position but accepted it because he had been promoted. As a result, the Ministry of Transport asked the Vietnam Railway Authority to replace all of the unit's leaders with more capable officials. Vietnam’s Ministry of Transport has given a new deadline for the sluggish construction of the Cat Linh – Ha Dong urban railway in Hanoi, as there are no more reasons to excuse for the long delayed completion of the Chinese-funded project. The ministry-run railway project management board should work closely with the Chinese contractor of the project to speed up the construction and put it into commercial run next year, Deputy Minister of Transport Nguyen Ngoc Dong said at a meeting in Hanoi on Friday. “Any difficulty arising during the implementation process should be reported immediately to the ministry to avoid wasting more time,” the deputy minister said.
