Big C in Viet Nam gradually becoming GO!, Tops Market

A Big C in HCM City after being renamed as Tops Market. — Photo courtesy of Central Retail Retail chain Big C is being renamed as GO! and Tops Market gradually given a completely new look to change customers’ shopping experience. On March 1 three Big C stores in HCM City (Big C An Phu, Big C Thao Dien, and Big C Au Co) became Tops Market, and in the third quarter of this year four stores in Ha Noi will be renamed. Last December-January five Big C hypermarkets in Nha Trang, Di An, Can Tho, Ha Long, and Vinh Phuc became GO! stores. Besides, Central Retail, the owner of the chain, last year also opened new GO! hypermarkets in shopping malls in My Tho, Ben Tre, Tra Vinh, Buon Ma Thuoc, and Quang Ngai. This year more hypermarkets are expected to be renamed. Many elderly people join 2nd stage of Nano Covax vaccine trials A total of 367 volunteers, including 30 aged over 60, have been injected with Nano Covax, Vietnam’s first homegrown COVID-19 vaccine candidate, in the second phase of its human trials, according to the Military Medical University. The second stage has been conducted by the university and the Ho Chi Minh City-based Pasteur Institute since February 26. It has been carried out at the university in Hanoi and the medical centre of Ben Luc district in the southern province of Long An, with the participation of 560 volunteers aged from 12-75, including 80 aged over 60. They will receive two doses of either the vaccine or the placebo AIPO4, with an interval of 28 days. Each volunteer will be monitored for 12 months after the first dose. Volunteers receiving shots on the morning of February 26 will receive the second doses in late March. Many music stars such as Thanh Lam, Mỹ Tâm, Hà Anh Tuấn, Bằng Kiều and Mỹ Linh have released announcements about upcoming special shows and surprises for their fans. “Hẹn Yêu” (Love date) is singer Thanh Lam’s live show, which will take place on March 21 at the Hà Nội Opera House. Thanh Lam told Người Lao Động (Labourer) newspaper that she is craving to sing after a long time away from the stage due to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. But some foreign inmates at Vĩnh Quang Prison are making the most of their lives locked up. And in one extreme case, a German national who has served his sentence is happy to stay in the prison because he feels that is now his home. Jurgen Michael has been a free man for almost a year, but instead of returning to his homeland he prefers to stay in prison. “I like living here. I don’t want to go home. This is my second home,” said the 60-year-old. “Vietnamese officers are good and friendly. They treat me very well. They give me bánh chưng (square glutinous rice cake), giò (Vietnamese sausage) and candy to celebrate Tết ( Lunar New Year) with Vietnamese people.
