Con Dao recruits more tourism personnel as demand rises

(Photo: ivivu.com) HCM City (VNS/VNA) - Resorts and hotels on Con Dao Island off the southern coastal province of Ba Ria-Vung Tau are hiring hundreds of employees for various positions earlier than usual this year because of the increasing number of tourists. “Tourism establishments on the island usually begin hiring personnel beginning in March, but the move began early this year,” the owner of the Duong Thuy Seafood shop said. The Poulo Condor Resort, for example, is looking for 33 new employees for 14 types of jobs, while the Sai Gon Con Dao Resort and the Six Senses Con Dao Resort are recruiting seven new staff each. Con Dao authorities offer training courses to residents, but young people often jump from job to job, a representative from Sai Gon Con Dao Resort’s recruitment department said. Diplomat advises Vietnamese candidates on how to win UK’s Chevening scholarships
A British diplomat shared with young Vietnamese last weekend what he thought to be the key to winning a prestigious scholarship offered by the UK government, pointing out some of the candidates’ misunderstandings. British Consul General Ian Gibbons said on the sidelines of the ‘Leader from Below’ workshop, organized by the British Consulate General in Ho Chi Minh City on January 12, that Vietnamese candidates tend not to fully understand what Chevening looks for in its two main requirements: leadership and influencing skills. Chevening is the UK government's international awards scheme. It is understood that applicants have to have two main qualities: leadership and influencing skills. PM promises 5-7 per cent corporate income tax cuts at GMS Summit
Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc at the sixth GMS Summit “We have been working to meet our commitments to protect intellectual property rights, innovative ideas, and the inventions of startups. We will continue to boost tax policy reforms and corporate income tax will be decreased to 15-17 per cent from the current 20-22 per cent,” stated Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc at the sixth Greater Mekong Subregion (GMS) Summit. At the summit, the PM said that in 2017, Vietnam continued to maintain one of Asia’s highest economic growths, with inflation controlled at 3.5 per cent. The country’s interest and exchange rates remained stable, trade turnover reached a record $425 billion, and foreign reserves have exceeded $60 billion. According to the World Bank, Vietnam’s Ease of Doing Business Index last year jumped 14 places to stand 68th among 190 economies.
