HCM City (VNA) – “Mot thoang Viet Nam” (Vietnam at a Glance), a tourism park recreating the beauty of Vietnam’s thousand-year-old traditional culture located on the outskirts of Ho Chi Minh City, was reopened on January 16 after 10 years. Every section of the 20-ha facillity in Cu Chi district tells its own story, said Director Tran Thi Tuyet Nga, citing the Hill of Eggs as an example, saying it tells a folk legend of Lac Long Quan and his wife Au Co who gave birth to a brood of a hundred eggs from which a hundred of children hatched and became the ancestors of all Vietnamese people. Visitors to the park can also observe on-the-spot the traditional making of “do” (poonah) paper, printmaking, and the sericulture. Difficulties still ahead for coffee sector: insiders
HCM City (VNA) – The export of coffee declined in both volume and value last year due to certain difficulties that are forecast to linger on for the time to come, insiders have said. Nguyen Viet Hai, Vice Chairman of the Vietnam Coffee - Cocoa Association (Vicofa), told a meeting in Ho Chi Minh City on January 15 that in the 2019 - 2020 crop, 1.61 million tonnes of the bean was shipped abroad at the average price of 1,740 USD per tonne, bringing home 2.8 billion USD. The figures respectively fell 5 percent, 0.4 percent, and 5.3 percent from the previous crop. The export volume of processed coffee (roasted and ground coffee, instant coffee) dropped by over 17 percent to 110,000 tonnes, resulting a fall of 8.7 percent in value to more than 443 million USD, he pointed out. Hai noted coffee prices remain unstable, leading to a plunge in the purchase of the produce from farmers in the 2020 - 2021 crop. No new COVID-19 cases to report, tally stays unchanged on Jan. 17
Hanoi (VNA) – The number of COVID-19 cases in Vietnam remains at 1,537 as no new infections were reported between 6pm on January 16 and 6pm on January 17. That includes 693 cases of domestic transmission, according to the National Steering Committee for COVID-19 Prevention and Control. As of January 17, 1,380 patients have recovered from the disease while the number of related fatalities is still kept at 35. Ten of those still under treatment have tested negative for SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes COVID-19, once, another ten twice, and ten others thrice.
