The overall picture is still optimistic with the gross domestic product (GDP) expanding nearly 4.5 per cent – among the best performers in the world. The first quarter growth, though in the same range as the last quarter of 2020 which also stood at 4.48 per cent, was up from the 3.68 per cent recorded in the first quarter of last year. The renewed outbreak of COVID-19 in some parts of the country, including the capital city of Ha Noi, adversely affected the first-quarter's performance which fell below the Government’s expectation of 5.12 per cent and was lower than the 5.7 per cent expected by Bloomberg’s economists. Considered as the largest panorama oil painting in Southeast Asia, “The Battle of Dien Bien Phu”, on display at Dien Bien Victory Museum promises to be an interesting highlight for visitors to Dien Bien. The extravaganza panoramic painting titled “The Battle of Dien Bien Phu” is on the last stage of creation and will officially be showcased to people in the northern mountain of Dien Bien in 2022. With a total investment of VND40 billion. (US$1.7 million), the artwork is the first 360-degree painting on history in Vietnam, praising the illustrious Dien Bien victory over the French troops in 1954. Judges at the Pink Lady Food Photographer of the Year photo contest, an annual event sponsored by UK-based The Food Awards Company, has selected several submissions by Vietnamese photographers to take home top prizes in the 2021 iteration of the event. The contest – launched in 2011 to “celebrate the very best in food photography and film from around the world” – accepts photo and video submissions of foods for its various categories, including photographs of food styled for magazines, as well as family themed, food production, and even food in politics categories. Hai Van Pass among ten most beautiful drives worldwide Hai Van Pass Hai Van Pass in Da Nang city has been listed among the 10 most beautiful drives in the world, according to a recent article published by Travel + Leisure magazine. Hai Van Pass has been dubbed "one of the best coast roads in the world" by Jeremy Clarkson, former host of British motoring show Top Gear. The website also recommends that those travelling along the route take the road slow as conditions can become a slightly foggy. Running for a total length of 20km, the pass has become one of the most popular destinations for visitors to snap photographs, with over 52,000 photos taken at the site uploaded to Instagram.
