At the accident site (Photo: VNA) Hanoi (VNA) – Deputy Prime Minister Truong Hoa Binh, Chairman of the National Committee for Traffic Safety, has directed the settlement of a deadly traffic accident which happened in the Mekong Delta province of Long An on January 2. He assigned Vice Chairman of the committee Khuat Viet Hung to come to the accident site and work with the provincial People’s Committee to address the consequences. He also called for support for the families of the dead and injured victims. According to a report by the province’s traffic safety board, a container truck hit 21 motorbikes waiting at a red light at Nhut Chanh junction in Ben Luc district, killing three people on the spot and injuring 17 others. One died en route to the hospital. After the accident, the driver, Pham Thanh Hieu, left the scene. He later turned himself in at Ben Luc district’s police station that evening. Golfers to compete at Long Thanh course in late December

The association said at a press conference in Hanoi on December 24 that the tournament attracts the participation of more than 100 golfers from domestic and foreign golf clubs and associations. VGA Deputy General Secretary Pham Thanh Tri, who is also head of the organising board, said many young Vietnamese golfers studying and working abroad such as Truong Chi Quan, Hanako Kawasaki and Thao My are expected to show their talents in the annual tournament. While the citadel walls to the east, south and west remain fairly intact, the northern wall, which runs around 880m long with an average height of 5m, has eroded in many places. The erosion risks triggering a more serious collapse of the wall and the serious deformation of the heritage site. According to experts, the northern wall is constructed of stones placed onto one another without any adhesive materials. At sites of erosion, big stones have slid dozens of metres from the base of the wall. Hundreds of small traders in Thanh Hoa Province have occupied Bim Son Market throughout Tet in protest against a local authority decision to rent out the market to a private company. Traders protest against market rental Bim Son Market was established by local people long ago but was only officially built and put into use by local authorities in 1991. Since then, traders have had to pay a fee of about VND4.2-4.8million/a kiosk (USD200-230) and since 1998, they had to renew their contract of each kiosk every year for an increased fee. The market was transferred to a private company in 2007 without informing its long-time merchants, but this was later cancelled following trader objections.
