Vietnam offers help to Bangladesh on Rakhine migrant issue

Deputy Foreign Minister Nguyen Quoc Dung (L) meets with Bangladeshi PM Sheikh Hasina Wazed (Photo: vov.vn)   Hanoi (VNA) – The Vietnamese Government has decided to offer financial assistance to Bangladesh to help provide humanitarian aid for migrants from the Myanmar state of Rakhine.  Deputy Foreign Minister Nguyen Quoc Dung made the announcement during a visit to Bangladesh on January 29 and 30 in his role as Special Envoy of Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc. During the trip, he met with Bangladeshi PM Sheikh Hasina Wazed, Foreign Minister AK Abdul Momen, State Minister of Foreign Affairs Shahriar Alam, and Country Director of the World Food Programme (WFP) in Bangladesh Richard Ragan. US calls on world to ‘pick a side’ on Venezuela; Europeans set to recognize Guaido

European powers, meanwhile, signaled they were set to follow Washington in recognizing Venezuelan opposition leader Juan Guaido as the country's rightful leader. In heated back-and-forth exchanges at a United Nations Security Council meeting, the opposing camp led by Venezuela and Russia, which has invested heavily in Venezuela's oil industry, accused Washington of attempting a coup, and lambasted Europeans' demand that elections be called within eight days. Guaido, who took the helm of the National Assembly on Jan. 5, proclaimed himself interim president on Wednesday. The United States, Canada and a string of Latin American countries recognized the young leader in quick succession. CPTPP expects to help Vietnam advance in labour reforms

(Photo: VNA) Hanoi (VNA) – In addition to trade and investment opportunities, the participation in the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP) will offer Vietnam a chance to modernise its labour laws and industrial relations system, thus creating sustainable jobs and bringing practical benefits to workers. HCM and Osaka cities hold mayor-level policy dialogue

Over the past years, the cooperation between the Vietnamese City and Japan in general and the Japanese City of Osaka in particular gained remarkable achievements, especially in carrying out environmental projects. Mayor-level dialogue on low carbon emission policy held

At the event (Source: VNA)   HCM City (VNA) –A mayor-level policy dialogue on low carbon emission city development took place in Ho Chi Minh City on September 6. Vice Chairman of the municipal People’s Committee Huynh Cach Mang said the Japanese city of Osaka boasts advanced technology and experience in addressing environmental issues and coping with climate change. Via a low carbon emission city development scheme, Osaka has assisted Ho Chi Minh City in building an action plan in response to climate change for the 2017-2020 period with a vision to 2030, in particular offering technical support in building a forecasting model for greenhouse gas emission, he said. Japan, VN hold 6th defence policy dialogue

At the dialogue, the two sides exchanged their views on the world-wide situation, as well as on regional issues of mutual concern. Deputy Minister Manabe affirmed that his country always attaches importance to Viet Nam’s role in the region, and desires to step up the two countries’ relations, including defence cooperation. Mr. Vinh said the two countries share many similarities and mutual trust and have cooperated in many fields. That cooperation will contribute to the maintenance of independence, sovereignty and development of each country as well as peace, stability and prosperity in the Asian-Pacific region, benefiting people of both nations. The Hanoitimes - Foreign Office Minister for Asia and the Pacific Mark Field, who is on a visit to Vietnam this week for the Vietnam-UK Strategic Dialogue this week, said that cooperation between Vietnam and the United Kingdom has flourished in recent years.
