“We think that in 2020-2022, Vietnam may face negative impact from the trade war instead of short-term positive impact, ” said Tran Toan Thang from the Centre for Socio-Economic Information and Forecast (NCIF). The lifting of the yellow card over illegal, unreported and unregulated (IUU) fishing is very important for the country. According to the EU, the yellow card means Vietnam has violated certain EU rules on legal fishing activities and has not fully declared where fish products came from. Such violations have prevented international authorities from tracing whether Vietnamese fish products came from Vietnam or not. Demand for investment capital at the Vietnam Oil and Gas Group (PVN) and its member units for 2018-20 was estimated to reach VND620 trillion (US$26.7 billion), PetroVietnam Securities Inc (PSI) recently announced. Accordingly, import tariff on frozen chicken parts in the sub-category 2207.14 is suggested to be cut from 20 percent to 18 percent, which is equivalent to the duty reduction in the roadmap in the first year implementing the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP).
