Thai Binh Trading Corp invests US$23 million in Cuba
Cuba was a potential market of Vietnamese enterprises, Tu said. Moreover, the Cuban believed to use Vietnamese products, he emphasized. The two factories were planned to be at Mariel special economic zones which was 43 kilometers from Havana. Investment capital for the washing powder factory was US$18 million from Thai Binh Trading Corp, Vico Limited Company and Suchel Company. The factory is expected to open in the second quarter of 2017 with 40,000 square meters. Thai Binh Trading Corp and Kywy Joint Stock Company invested US$5 million aiming to produce from 120 million to 180 million products per year. It would be built in 10,000 square meters and operated in first quarter of 2017. Regional Conference on GDN Held
A regional conference on the Global Development Network (GDN) was held in Hanoi by the Vietnamese Government and the World Bank with the participation of over 100 researchers and representatives of organisations operating in distance training. GDN is a knowledge and co-operation network, set up in 2000 with a target of using technology and institution strength of the World Bank and partners to provide an effective development and knowledge sharing tool. At the conference, many distance training models developed in many countries, such as China, Japan and Australia, were introduced. Tran Van Nhung, deputy minister of education and training, said that Vietnam would study and apply these models as Vietnam has a huge need for information technology-based distance training. Vietnam-ROK Reach Agreement on WTO
On July 11, at the Ministry of Trade, Ambassador Kim Eui-ki and Trade Vice-Minister Luong van Tu signed an agreement on commodities and services, concluding the bilateral negotiation on Vietnam admission to WTO. ROK became the second partner, after EU, completing bilateral negotiation with Vietnam. Nine rounds of negotiations were conducted from April 2002 to May 2005. Vietnam is regarded as all-sided partner of Republic of Korea in the 21st century. It is expected that in December, at the WTO meeting in Hong Kong, Vietnam will become official member of the organisation. The draft of the Beer Industry Development Plan to 2010, which has just been finalised by the Ministry of Industry (MoI) and submitted to the government for scrutiny, is envisaged to replace the current plan that has been in place for three years and has become outdated.“Beer production output has exceeded the [initially] planned figure and is expected to continue its rising trend,” said Phan Chi Dung, director of the MoI’s Consumption Industry, pointing to the predicted 2.5 billion litres of beer to be consumed by the end of the decade.The existing development plan sets a target of 1.5 billion litres by 2010. Operation of Foreign Financial Institutions in Vietnam Revised
By June, 2005, there had been 32 foreign financial institutions from 15 countries and territories operating in Vietnam , including 28 branches of foreign banks, four joint venture banks set up by foreign banks and Vietnamese commercial banks, and three financial leasing companies. Among the 28 branches of foreign banks, there are three branches of American banks. Only 11 branches of foreign banks and one joint venture bank have their offices in Hanoi . The remainder is in Ho Chi Minh City , of which only five branches have opened its affiliates in Hanoi . The State Bank of Vietnam (SBV) stipulates that each branch of a foreign bank has to have charter capital of US$15 million (equal to VND 225 billion with US$1 equal to VND 15,000) provided by its parent bank. Parkson eyes retail coup
Parkson’s application for an investment licence is now awaiting approval from the Ministry of Planning and Investment. A government notice issued last week asked that the licence require Parkson to support the export of domestic products and seriously invest in the local fashion design industry. The retailer applied for a licence to set up a 100 per cent foreign-owned enterprise with initial investment capital of $15 million. The company aims to design, produce and distribute garment products throughout Vietnam, with its first centre to be located in Ho Chi Minh City.Parkson stated the centre would sell locally-made garments and only import products that were not produced in Vietnam. In addition, foreign products will not exceed 5 per cent of the total value of commodities in the centre. The consumer price index (CPI) increased by 5.2 per cent in the first half of 2005, according to figures from the General Statistics Office. Accordingly, the CPI of food and foodstuff saw the highest increase of 7.7 per cent. The figures for drinks, tobacco, housing and construction materials were put at only 3.1 and three per cent. The CPI of other goods rose by between 1.2 and 2.9 per cent. The gold price saw a 4.4 per cent fall. The exchange rate of US dollar was station. Despite a lower increase in comparison with the same period last year, the CPI of the first half of this year has been equal to 80 per cent of a target of 6.5 per cent set by the National Assembly for this year. The Construction and Construction Materials Company 6 (Cosevco 6) is an affiliate of the Midland Construction Corporation (Cosevco) which locates in Dong Hoi City , Quang Binh province. The company has eight affiliates which employ 1,100 laborers. The years of 2003 and 2004 are considered the most successful period of Cosevco 6.
