Illustrative image (Photo: VNA) Khanh Hoa (VNA) – The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism (MCST) recently revealed the programme for the 2019 National Tourism Year themed “Nha Trang, colour of the sea.” The tourism year is seen as a golden opportunity for the south central coastal province of Khanh Hoa to promote its cultural heritage, natural resources and tourism products, thus attracting more domestic and foreign tourists to the locality. The MCST urged Khanh Hoa to improve state management in tourism, create favourable conditions for businesses to participate in the activities, ensure political security and social order and safety and protect the environment. Thanh Nguyen, a journalist I could not believe that I was looking at pictures of the Nui neighborhood in Nha Trang. Nha Trang, Vietnam’s beautiful beach town, which attracts millions of visitors each year, just cannot look like this. But before my eyes, unforgiving, were pictures of crushed metal roofs, fallen electric poles, broken tree branches and rubble. The Nui neighborhood, today. Two years ago, I’d reported on this neighborhood to find out what had been done, or was being done, to improve the living conditions of its residents. Hundreds of houses stood next to the Hon Ro Mountain; all made of wooden planks, iron sheets and nylon covers clumsily thatched together. Hundreds of troops were dispatched to affected areas to cope with the aftermath, Nguoi Lao Dong newspaper reported, citing Nguyen Sy Khanh, vice chairman of the city’s government. The city has been suffering major losses and damages over the past two days as Storm No.8, internationally known as Toraji, has brought torrential rains to coastal areas in Vietnam. As confirmed by local officials, most of the deaths and injuries in the wards of Vinh Truong, Vinh Tho, and Phuoc Dong Commune have been due to the landslides, collapsed houses and walls. Nha Trang welcomes more than 1.4 million Chinese visitors
Accordingly, the number of visitors to Nha Trang in the first ten months of 2018 is estimated at 5.3 million, marking a 115% rise from the same period last year. Of the total holidaymakers in the ten months, over 3 million were domestic tourists, making a 101% rise from the same period last year. Nha Trang welcomed over 2.3 million foreign visitors, a 141% increase from the same period last year, whilst the number of Chinese tourists to the city rose by 156%. In addition to the Chinese visitors, Nha Trang is a popular destination for tourists from Japan, the Republic of Korea and Malaysia with 10,000-50,000 people a year. Since early this year, more than 333,000 Russian people have visited Nha Trang, up by more than 103% while visitors from traditional markets like the UK, France, Germany and the US reached around 8,000 to 16,000 people. Nha Trang – Khanh Hoa Sea Festival slated for May 2019
Nha Trang beach (Source: VNA) Khanh Hoa (VNA) – The ninth Nha Trang – Khanh Hoa Sea Festival is scheduled to take place in the central province of Khanh Hoa from May 11-14, 2019, as an activity to kick-start the National Tourism Year 2019. The festival will feature a string of cultural, artistic and sport activities, aiming to introduce the province’s strengths in economics, culture and tourism as well as its sustainable development prospects. The festival has been held biennially since 2003. Some 120,000 foreign and domestic tourists flocked to the city during the previous festival. Khanh Hoa to host Visit Vietnam Year 2019

An extravaganza of activities is scheduled for the year, including an opening ceremony, sea festival week, beer festival, Miss Universe and Hong Kong-Nha Trang yatch race. Fifteen cities and provinces nationwide have confirmed to join the year. Seminar discusses Khanh Hoa tourism development

(Photo: VNA) Khanh Hoa (VNA) – Some 200 businesses and experts discussed developing tourism in the central province of Khanh Hoa at a seminar in Nha Trang city on August 4. Speaking at the event, Tran Son Hai, Vice Chairman of the Khanh Hoa People’s Committee, said local tourism has recorded high growth over the past year but shortcomings remain. According to him, these shortcomings included tourism products lacking diversity, service quality not meeting tourists’ demand, restrictions in tourism promotion and low quality human resources.
