Wedding limousine crash kills 20 in New York
Twenty people were killed on Sunday (Oct 7) after a limousine carrying a wedding party careened out of control in what investigators described as the most deadly transportation accident in the United States for nearly a decade. All 18 occupants of the SUV-style stretch limo died along with two pedestrians on Saturday afternoon in upstate New York, police deputy superintendent Christopher Fiore told a news conference. He said the 2001 Ford Excursion had failed to stop at an intersection and continued into a parking lot, ultimately crashing into a parked car. Investigators have not yet established if the victims were wearing seatbelts. "Twenty fatalities is horrific ... New York Times says Trump helped parents shield millions from taxes
The Times investigation, which the White House said was "misleading," showed Trump received the equivalent today of at least $413 million from his father's real estate business. The Times, citing a "vast trove" of confidential tax returns and financial records, reported that much of that fortune came to Trump because he helped his parents evade taxes, setting up a fake corporation with his siblings to disguise millions of dollars in gifts from their parents. Trump promoted himself during his presidential campaign as a self-made real estate mogul who started out with only a "very small" loan from his businessman father, Fred Trump. Reuters has not been able to verify the report. White House spokeswoman Sarah Sanders called the story "misleading" and said in a statement "many decades ago the IRS reviewed and signed off on these transactions." Trump's lawyer Charles Harder told the Times: "President Trump had virtually no involvement whatsoever with these matters." "The affairs were … [Read more...] about New York Times says Trump helped parents shield millions from taxes

New York Times, New Yorker win Pulitzer for #MeToo watershed
The New York Times and The New Yorker won the Pulitzer Prize for public service on Monday for explosive reporting that brought down Harvey Weinstein and spawned a cultural watershed on the issue of sexual harassment. The prestigious prize was awarded to the Times team led by Jodi Kantor and Megan Twohey and New Yorker contributor Ronan Farrow, for reports that disgraced the Hollywood mogul and sparked an avalanche of accusations against other powerful men. Since the Times and New Yorker articles last October, more than 100 women have publicly accused the producer of misconduct ranging from sexual harassment to rape, sparking the #MeToo movement that has seen a string of influential men lose their jobs and reputation. New York sues Weinstein Co., Harvey Weinstein over sexual misconduct
New York's attorney general sued the Weinstein Company and Harvey Weinstein on Sunday alleging years of sexual harassment and misconduct by the movie producer, in a move that could jeopardize talks on a potential sale of the studio. Weinstein, co-founder of the Miramax studio, was one of Hollywood's most influential men before more than 70 women accused him of sexual misconduct, including rape. He denies having non-consensual sex with anyone, and his lawyer said many of the latest allegations would turn out to be unmerited. The civil suit alleges that the company's executives and board repeatedly failed to protect employees from Weinstein, Attorney General Eric Schneiderman said in a statement. The suit also names Weinstein's brother Bob, who co-founded the company. The studio has been in talks to sell itself to a group of investors led by former Obama administration official Maria Contreras-Sweet, but Schneiderman's lawsuit has put deal negotiations on hold, according to people … [Read more...] about New York sues Weinstein Co., Harvey Weinstein over sexual misconduct
