Indonesia is working to recover data from the crashed plane's black box (Photo: www.riauredaksi.com)   Hanoi (VNA) - Indonesia’s National Transportation Safety Committee (NTSC) said on November 5 that a Lion Air plane that crashed into the Java Sea last week, killing all 189 onboard, had an air speed indicator problem on its fatal flight and on three previous journeys. According to the NTSC, the black box data showed the plane had an air speed indicator issue on at least two other earlier flights before the Boeing 737 MAX 8 met with the accident on October 29. "There were four flights in all that suffered a problem with the airspeed indicator," NTSC head Soerjanto Tjahjono told reporters. When there was a problem, the pilot would write it down and the mechanic would do a repair and then the plane would be declared airworthy, he added. The agency said it would probe what caused the indicator problem and whether proper repairs were done, including replacing the faulty … [Read more...] about Crashed Indonesian plane had faulty air speed indicator

Lion Air flight JT610, an almost new Boeing 737 MAX 8, was en route to Pangkal Pinang, capital of the Bangka-Belitung tin mining region. Rescue officials said they had recovered some human remains from the crash site, about 15 km off the coast. The plane crashed soon after takeoff from the capital, headed for a key tin-mining region, officials said. Indonesia's search and rescue agency confirmed the crash of Lion Air flight, JT610, adding that it lost contact with ground officials 13 minutes after takeoff, and a tug boat leaving the capital's port saw it fall. "We don't know yet whether there are any survivors," agency head Muhmmad Syaugi told a news conference, adding that no distress signal had been received from the aircraft's emergency transmitter. "We hope, we pray, but we cannot confirm." He said that items such as handphones and life vests were found in waters about 30 metres to 35 metres (98 to 115 ft) deep near where the plane, identified by air tracking service Flightradar 24 as a Boeing 737 MAX 8, lost contact. "We are there already, our vessels, our helicopter is hovering above the waters, to assist," Syaugi said. "We are trying to dive down to find the wreck." At least 23 government officials were aboard the … [Read more...] about Indonesian plane with 189 aboard crashes into sea near Jakarta, feared sunk
