NA leader lauds ethnic minority committee’s contributions to success in 14th tenure
The top legislator noted that in the 14th tenure, the NA issued a number of breakthrough policies regarding ethnic minority and mountainous areas, one of which was a resolution approving a master plan on socio-economic development for ethnic minority-inhabited and mountainous areas in the 2021-2030 period. The NA also approved the National Target Programme on socio-economic development in ethnic minority-inhabited and mountainous areas in the 2021-30 period, he said, highlighting the considerable contribution by the NA Committee for Ethnic Minority Affairs to the adoption of the documents. Local e-commerce market to be valued at US$52 billion by 2025
The figures were released on April 20 by the Vietnam E-Commerce Association (VECOM) at the Vietnam Online Business Forum (VOBF) 2021 taking place in Hanoi. The 2016 to 2019 period witnessed strong development of the local e-commerce market, obtaining an annual growth rate of approximately 30%, according to a report compiled by Google, Temasek, and Bain&Company. In spite of the low starting point of just over US$4 billion in market value in 2015, the size of the Vietnamese e-commerce market had grown to US$11.5 billion by 2019 and US$15 billion last year. Nguyen Binh Minh, member of the VECOM’s Executive Board, said the majority of e-commerce activities in the country take place in the two largest cities, Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City. Vietnam expects to invest $35.75bil in expressway network
The Ministry of Transport plan to build 42 expressways from now to 2030 with investment capital funded by private businesses. The Ministry of Transport (MoT) is working on a draft 10-year plan (2021-2030) to build 42 new expressways with investment of about VND825 trillion (US$35.75 billion), raising the total expressway length to 5,000 kilometers. To realize the 5,000 kilometer-expressway targets by 2030, Vietnam will need huge investment capital, according to Minister of Transport Nguyen Van The at a weekend meeting held in Hanoi. Among the 42 new expressways, the plan envisages building 31 new expressways with a total estimated investment of VND483,848 trillion (US$20.967 billion) from 2021 to 2025. Australia and UNICEF support Vietnam in Covid-19 vaccine delivery
In total, Australia has committed AU$40 million (US$31 million) over three years to support Vietnam’s vaccine procurement and delivery efforts. The Australian Embassy and the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) have announced an assistance worth US$10.5 million to support Covid-19 vaccine delivery in Vietnam, ensuring the country’s expanded immunization program. Australian Ambassador to Vietnam Robyn Mudie said at a press conference in Hanoi on April 19 that her country will explore options to procure vaccines to support Vietnam. Some of those vaccines in due course are likely to be manufactured in Australia and the Australian government expects some of the homemade vaccines will be part of the country's contribution to Vietnam, according to the ambassador.
