Vietnam pilots teaching German, Korean in high schools

Under the decision, German and Korean languages will be taught as the mandatory first for students from third grade to twelve grade of 10-year formal education in the pilot teaching program ( for formal education consisting of ten years of basic education). The pilot foreign language teaching program aims to help students improve their communication skills of the two languages to satisfy demand of foreign language interpreters and translators during integration. Specifically, sixth graders can achieve level A1 ( elementary), nine graders can finish intermediate and 12th grader can reach advanced level. The languages will be taught in a total of 1,155 periods each period lasting 35 minutes. Korean, German piloted as first foreign languages at Vietnamese schools

The Ministry of Education and Training has decided to pilot German and Korean as the first foreign languages at local schools. Under the decision, German and Korean will be taught as the first mandatory languages for students from third grade to twelve grades on the trial basis from February 9. According to the Ministry of Education and Training, the pilot teaching of German and Korean in some localities have proved good results with the active response from students. This is the reason why these two languages are added to the list of the first obligatory foreign language list. Main Hanoi roads jammed as students return to school

Several roads leading into Hanoi faced severe congestion as schools reopened on the morning of March 2. Many motorbike drivers ran on the pavements or in the wrong direction along Nguyen Trai, Le Van Luong and Tran Duy Hung streets. The police were sent out early to regulate the traffic and ease congestion spots. Thai Binh provincial Military Command asked to comprehensively complete assignments
