The Vietnamese government has approved the construction of multiple expressways and various other traffic infrastructure projects in the Mekong Delta in a bid to boost local development. Deputy Prime Minister Trinh Dinh Dung signed the approval, which ratifies the development plan for the country’s ‘rice basket’ from now until 2030, with a vision toward 2050. The scheme will be carried out across Can Tho City and 12 other provinces including Long An, Tien Giang, Ben Tre, Dong Thap, Vinh Long, Tra Vinh, Hau Giang, An Giang, Soc Trang, Kien Giang, Bac Lieu, and Ca Mau. Mekong delta Kien Giang names three tourist zones
The People’s Committee in the Mekong Delta province of Kien Giang has recognised the Nam Du Archipelago and Lai Son Island in Kien Hai District and Hai Tac Archipelago in Ha Tien Town as local tourist zones. The recognition aims to promote the development of marine and coastal tourism, attract investment in the tourism industry, and lure more tourists to the islands. It is expected to enhance the preservation and protection of tourism resources and the environment on the islands. To be recognised as a local tourist zone, places must have an area of 200 hectares or more and be rich in tourism resources. Its tourism infrastructure and services should be capable of serving at least 100,000 tourist arrivals every year. Australian coaches offer free swimming lessons for children in Vietnam’s Mekong Delta
More than 20 Australian swimming coaches are teaching young children in a southern Vietnamese province how to swim and how to avoid drowning. More than 550 young students, disabled children and elderly people in the Mekong Delta province of Tien Giang are taking swimming lessons from 21 instructors from the Australian Water Safety on the Mekong (AWSOM) Project. According to Nguyen Thi Kim Chi, director of the My Tho sports center, the kids come from kindergartens and elementary schools across all wards and communes of My Tho City, Go Cong District, and Cho Gao District in Tien Giang. Tollgates in Vietnam’s Mekong Delta face fierce opposition from drivers
