The site’s editors selected 13 best destinations for year-end travel, based on flight cost trends, climate information and international cultural calendars. Among three Asian destinations in the list is the Mekong Delta in Vietnam. A boat tour in the mangrove forest in An Giang Province, Mekong Delta. The site recommended several must-try travel experiences in ther region, including guided boat tours on the labyrinthine Mekong river and its many distributaries. Viet Nam News HCM CITY — Localities in the western cluster of Cửu Long (Mekong) Delta need to foster regional co-operation to create highly competitive tourism products in the Mekong River Delta region, officials have said. The western cluster of the Mekong Delta region comprises Cần Thơ City and the six provinces of Bạc Liêu, Cà Mau, Sóc Trăng, An Giang, Hậu Giang and Kiên Giang. In the first six months of the year, the number of tourist arrivals to the cluster rose by 11 per cent to reach 17.8 million, accounting for more than 76 per cent of total tourist arrivals to the Mekong Delta region. Tourism revenue was estimated at VNĐ10.4 trillion (US$452.1 million), a year-on-year increase of more than 33 per cent. Young ASEAN leaders contribute ideas to protect Mekong Delta environment
At the workshop (Source: tapchicongsan.org.vn) Can Tho (VNA) – Some 120 young leaders from the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) contributed their ideas to protecting the environment in the Mekong Delta of Vietnam at a workshop which opened in Can Tho city on June 5. The event, which runs until June 9, was organised by the US Mission to Vietnam and the Resource Centre for Community Development from An Giang University. Participants will study the consequences of changes in the environment in the Mekong Delta such as landslides, salinisation, river flooding, sea level rising, degradation of water resources and the effects of building hydroelectric plants, which all impact on people’s lives and the economic development of the region. The BCG consultants made the proposal at a working session with the People’s Committee of Can Tho city on May 16, which sought ways to develop tourism adaptable to climate change in the Mekong Delta. The region should maximise resources and economic sectors to create differences in sustainable development, they said, urging authorities to make best use of landscapes, natural resources as well as historical and cultural values to turn the region into an ideal tourist destination. The consultants pointed out that although the Mekong Delta is Vietnam’s production hub of rice, fruits and seafood, it is one of the regions in the country most affected by climate change. Mekong Delta lures investment from Japan
Attending at the event were former State President Truong Tan Sang, Japanese Ambassador to Vietnam Umeda Kunio, Deputy Foreign Minister Bui Thanh Son and more than 600 representatives of State agencies and businesses of the two countries. Former State President Truong Tan Sang highlighted Vietnam-Japan cooperation. New direct air route brings more tourists to Mekong Delta

Australian coaches offer free swimming lessons for children in Vietnam’s Mekong Delta
More than 20 Australian swimming coaches are teaching young children in a southern Vietnamese province how to swim and how to avoid drowning. More than 550 young students, disabled children and elderly people in the Mekong Delta province of Tien Giang are taking swimming lessons from 21 instructors from the Australian Water Safety on the Mekong (AWSOM) Project. According to Nguyen Thi Kim Chi, director of the My Tho sports center, the kids come from kindergartens and elementary schools across all wards and communes of My Tho City, Go Cong District, and Cho Gao District in Tien Giang.
