Prince Group Unveils Sustainable Development Masterplan by Surbana Jurong for Ream City in Sihanoukville

Cambodian conglomerate brings world-renowned expertise from Singapore to oversee 834-ha project, catalyzing growth in Cambodia’s 3rd largest cityHONG KONG SAR - Media OutReach - 8 February 2021 - Canopy Sands Development, a member of Prince Holding Group, one of Cambodia's largest and fastest growing conglomerates, approved a masterplan for Ream City developed by Surbana Jurong Group, a global urban, infrastructure and managed services consultancy headquartered in Singapore. The masterplan specifies a land use plan for the 834-hectare project requiring total investments estimated at US$16 billion, and will be developed on reclaimed land conveniently located within a 10 minutes' drive from Sihanoukville International Airport. Travel firms shift to new strategies to overcome pandemic crisis

While many travel firms and hotels have gone bankrupt or are idle, others have been thriving thanks to new business strategies and creative products. Visits to historical sites, especially prisons, always leave a strong impression on visitors, and sometimes, fear. However, the Hoa Lo Prison site has recently attracted a high number of visitors, many of them young people and primary school students. Some of them have visited a second time. This occurred after Hoa Lo Prison’s management board changed tours on innovative ways. In the past, 70 percent of visitors to Hoa Lo were foreigners. However, because of Covid-19, that source dried up, but there were also not many Vietnamese visitors. The number of visitors dropped by 76 percent. Vietnamese expert calls for enhancing community resilience to deal with natural disasters

In October 2020, according to the National General Statistics Office, central Vietnam was hit by four tropical storms with heavy rains and landslides that killed 129 people and damaged more than 111,200 houses. Even though the local people are no strangers to killer tropical storms, Nguyen Ngoc Huy, a Vietnamese international expert and senior advisor for Oxfam on climate change, believes more needs to be done in order to save lives and property after natural disasters. Huy received a PhD in Environmental Studies from Kyoto University with a focus on drought risk management and climate change adaptation in 2010. He has over 15 years of experience working on water resource management, climate change adaptation, disaster risk reduction, and education in emergencies in Vietnam, Laos, and Cambodia. He has also served as an international consultant for UNISDR, UNCCD, IFAD, ADRC, and UNESCO in conducting research, studying policy, and developing tools for disaster risk reduction.
