Vietnamese and Japanese firms receive support to expand operations The Japan Trade Promotion Organisation (JETRO) will host an online scheme on March 3 in Hanoi aimed at connecting Japanese businesses in the field of manufacturing and production, known as Monozukuri in Japanese term to facilitate co-operation amid the negative impacts caused the COVID-19 pandemic. According to a representative from the JETRO, the business matching programme will see the participation of 40 Japanese companies for the purpose of accelerating the development of the country’s supporting industry. At present, the scheme has received registration for 50 negotiations from enterprises from Japan, Vietnam, and Taiwan (China), whilst it is still receiving registration from businesses wishing to purchase and seek Japanese suppliers in the Monozukuri field until March 1. COVID-19 widens existing gender inequalities: ILO

Photo ILO Vietnam HÀ NỘI – With a remarkably high labour market participation rate, women in Việt Nam face multiple and persistent labour market inequalities, and carry a disproportionate double burden of work and family responsibilities, researchers have revealed. A new research brief by the International Labour Organization (ILO) in Việt Nam shows the COVID-19 pandemic has not only exacerbated existing inequalities but created new gender gaps. More than 70 per cent of Việt Nam’s working-age women are in the labour force, compared to the global level of 47.2 per cent and an average of 43.9 per cent in Asia and the Pacific. While the gender gap in labour force participation is narrower in Việt Nam than in the world, it has still stood at 9.5 percentage points (men’s rate higher than women’s) over the last decade. Phạm Huy, a small trader in a traditional market in Long Biên District, said plastic bags and products were selling in large quantities in local markets because they were not only cheap but also convenient. It costs VNĐ30,000 (US$1.3) per roll of 100 plastics bags and VNĐ20,000 ($0.8) for 50 plastic cups, he said. Huy said the number of people shopping at the market was very large and most of them asked for plastic bags. Vietnam, IFC together to promote female management in finance-banking
The Hanoitimes - The government and the International Finance Corporation aims to increase the number of women in leadership positions in banks. The International Finance Corporation (IFC), a member of the World Bank Group (WB), and the State Bank of Vietnam (SBV) have signed a cooperation agreement to promote initiatives on enhancing the employment of talented women in management in the finance-banking industry as well as sustainable and inclusive economic growth.
